SCS Weekly Newsletter 12/1/24
A Season for Thanks and Kindness
From the Principal's Desk:
I hope this newsletter finds you well, and having enjoyed a nice Thanksgiving.
Brrr! It's that time of year again! Grey November and early December skies, and our first snow of the year, remind us that winter is coming, and the temperatures have turned for sure! At school, that means nice comfortable temperatures inside, but it can mean cold temperatures at recess outside! That being the case, it's time to start sending our "High Five" of winter clothes to school (hat, coat, gloves, snow pants, and boots).
While we do have some "borrow clothes", we do not have unlimited supply, and sometimes there can be a lot of students looking to borrow. The more students have the items they need already, the easier it is to help students who need to borrow something because they forgot their own at home. If your family could use some help getting outerwear, please let us know! We can definitely help.
As you keep reading, look for another sign of winter coming: a visit from our very own VTrans plow truck!
All the best- stay warm!
Bjarki

SCS News:
All School Meeting: Unveiling our motto for the year!
It was wonderful to see just how much agreement there is between students on how they want their school to feel, and how much buy-in there is, both among children and adults, when it comes to these sort of community-building and norm-setting activities.
SCS Celebrates Thanksgiving with our own feast!
On Thursday, November 22nd, all of our classes came together, along with our staff and community volunteers, to have a Thanksgiving dinner together! As always, Kathleen prepared wonderful food, and the kids had a blast sitting and eating all together.
During the dinner we asked students to do one thing: we asked each student to think of one or two people they are thankful for, and to take the time over Thanksgiving break to thank those people. It might be fun if you ask them who they thought about thanking!
A special thanks to Kathleen, community volunteers Jen Armstrong and Shelly Smith, ACSD School Board member Laura Harthan, and our 4th and 5th graders for helping out. We'd like to particularly thank 5th graders Kalyce and Rowan for being so helpful setting up!
A visit from our very own "Snowy Potter"!
As part of VTrans' "Name a Plow" program, Salisbury Community School named a truck! We took suggestions from all classes, and then voted as a school. Interestingly, unlike a couple of years ago when the name nominated by one student won, this year multiple classes nominated the same name, and it won by a landslide- so "Snowy Potter" it is!
And then we got a special treat when VTrans driver Jamie Vincent brough "Snowy Potter" to school! Thanks Jamie, and thanks VTrans! Keep an eye out for Snowy Potter around Addison County this winter!

Fun Feature! Time-Lapse Picture Project.
New for 24-25: The Time-Lapse Picture Project
This year, we thought it would be fun to chronicle the changes of the season at Salisbury Community School by taking the same picture, at the same time, from the same spot, every week. At the end of the year it will hopefully be a fun thing to look at and share!
