February and Spring!
It's February! (after the longest January on record). Seriously, our early childhood and kindergarten classes celebrated the 100th day with lots of 100 day activities on Friday, January 31st! Our first graders worked hard to celebrate our 101st day of school today! We continue to have some great learning and fun coming our way EVERY day! February brings a few field trips AND our week of kindness. Our "No Place for Hate" student club has some fun activities planned along with dress up days! We did encourage our students to think of easy things families would already have around the house such as hats, socks, pajamas, and more! Throughout the week, children will spread some kindness with notes and inspirational quotes too.
As part of our kindness campaign, students are participating in a "service project" to share our love for others along with passing out valentines to classmates! On Valentine's Day, our students will be crafting cards to share with our donations. For Valentine's, please note the following:
- Students will be passing out valentines to one another as part of the fun! Each homeroom teacher should have sent home a "roster" for students to make cards to pass out! The campus is providing "white" bags for students to decorate to put valentines in to come home!
- EC-2nd grade are collecting food items for the Leander Food Pantry. Food specifically needed include peanut butter, tomato based products, and hygenie products (shampoo, soap, toothpaste)
- 3rd-5th grade is collecting NEW socks and underwear for the LISD Clothes Closet. The clothes closet is in need of larger socks and underwear for middle and high school students.

Volunteer Opportunities!
Do you want to be part of the Hisle community? As we continue the spring semester, Hisle continues to have various volunteer opportunities! We have an AMAZING PTO that partners with the campus to provide PTO meetings,WatchDogs, and more! In addition, volunteer opportunities continue to rise...be sure to reach out if you'd love to spend some time reading with children, doing the marquee, serving as a WatchDog, or more
As always, we require that any adult working with children be an approved volunteer. It's an easy application with a few clicks! Here are some volunteer opportunities at Hisle:
- MARQUEE: 1-2 volunteers needed to update the current events happening on campus! Most months, we update the marquee twice a month. If you are interested, please reach out to Robin.Harvey@leanderisd.org
- Classroom Deliveries: We have a few volunteers that come each day around 9:45am to deliver lunches, water bottles, and more to classrooms. We already have a few wonderful volunteers, but there are five days in our week! If you are interested, please reach out to Robin.Harvey@leanderisd.org
- 4th & 5th Grade Reading Volunteers: Our students are loving book clubs, and we would love to have a few volunteers help model book converstaions or even listen to students read! Most volunteers come once a week, the teacher provides a few questions for the volunteer to utilize, and the group reads and talks about the book. Listening to students read is a one on one opportunity to just allow a child to share their love of reading or practice reading fluently to an adult! If you are interested, you may reach out to our 4th/5th grade team lead, Ms. Boyle at Breanna.Boyle@leanderisd.org.
- Lunch Room Monitor: Each day, students come to lunch and a few teachers help supervise students. We are always in need of additional hands so if you are interested in volunteering to help at lunch...open food, answer questions, and monitor students. If you are interested, please reach out to Marcia.Fields@leanderisd.org. We could really use help with kindergarten-second grade lunch times (K:10:50, 1st: 12:35, and 2nd:10:15)
NEWS FROM THE NURSE
Cold and Flu Season is HERE!
Cold and Flu Season is Here – Keep Sick Students Home! To help keep our school community healthy, it is crucial to keep your child home if they are experiencing symptoms of illness. Below are some frequently asked questions to help you determine what is best!
When should your child stay home?
If your child has any of the following symptoms, they must stay home and be symptom-free for at least 24 hours without the use of medication before returning to school:
- Fever of 100.0°F or higher
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
For example, if a student has a 101.0°F fever at 12:00 PM and takes Tylenol, the fever may temporarily go down. However, the 24-hour symptom-free period starts when the medication has fully worn off and they remain fever-free on their own. If the fever was still gone at 6:00 PM when the medicine wore off, they could return after 6:00 PM the next day if no fever returns.
Other important ways to prevent the spread of illness:
- Encourage frequent handwashing or sanitizing, especially before and after eating.
- Teach children to cover their coughs and sneezes with a tissue or their elbow.
