A Message From Your Principal
Dear Eames Way Families,
What an exciting week we’ve had here at Eames Way! Our 5th grade students kicked things off with a fantastic concert on Monday, showcasing their musical talents and hard work. It was a wonderful opportunity for the students to shine and for our community to come together in celebration. Later in the week, we were thrilled to host an EWS PTO-sponsored enrichment with talented author and illustrator, Emilie Boon, who led a presentation and workshop with several grade levels. The students had the chance to engage in the creative process, ask questions, and take part in hands-on activities, making it an inspiring experience for all involved.
We also celebrated our 5th grade volleyball team, who brought home the district-wide championship! Their teamwork, sportsmanship, and determination made us all incredibly proud. On Friday, our community showed support for the Marshfield 5k by wearing green, and we are excited to have an official Eames Way School Team participating in tomorrow's race. We can’t wait to see our students, families, and staff on the road tomorrow morning, cheering each other on!
Warm regards,
Warm regards,
Ms. Bishop
Principal

EWS STUDENT JOURNALISTS!
"The EWS Fifth Grade Chorus Concert" By Rae McPherson, Grade 5
Hi, my name is Rae and this week we had the fifth-grade chorus concert. They all did so great, they sang “Tongo”, “You’ve Got A Friend”, and “Gutatumba” all led by Mr. Larson. Also, the speakers in the concert and the percussionist really pulled the whole concert together.
This is Grace telling how she thought the chorus concert went: “I think the concert went wonderfully and everyone should be proud of themselves.” Now this is Maggie telling what her favorite song was: “My favorite song was “You’ve Got A Friend” because it reminds me of my friends and family.” Enza is going to tell her favorite part of the concert” “Introducing Gutatumba because I got to be more immersed.” Now back to Grace: “The xylophone was my favorite percussion instrument. My favorite part of learning the songs was learning about different cultures.” Now over to Maggie with the same questions: “My favorite percussion instrument was the djembe, and getting to learn some of a new language.” Now Enza is going to answer the same questions, “I liked the xylophone, and I got to have more experiences with more languages.” Also, fun fact, “Tongo” translates to “mangrove,” which is a tree.
There were two concerts, one was for kids and one was for adults. Both concerts were enjoyed by everybody, and our next concert will be in spring.
"How to Build the Perfect Leprechaun Trap" By Ronan Ivas, Grade 4
I know how to build the best leprechaun trap in the world. First, I will be listing the materials for the leprechaun trap. You will need a big, humongous Home Depot box because they are really large and made out of strong cardboard. You also need a big ramp, a lot of wrapping paper, and three leaf clover stickers. It helps if the wrapping paper is camouflage. It’s even better if everything blends in. The ramp walkway leads to the top of the box which is open. Fill the box with fake gold coins and place coins along the ramp like a trail to lead the leprechaun into the box. It’s also good to have fake coins because if the leprechaun does steal all your money, you won’t go broke.
Once the trap is made, it helps to draw rainbows and put them on the wall. Rainbows will make the leprechaun think that there is gold nearby. Then find a good place to hide and watch for the leprechaun. As soon as the leprechaun goes up the ramp and into the box, take the ramp so he can’t escape and slam the box closed!
If you build this trap, let me know and I will give a prize to the first five people. However, you MUST use everything I explained in the paragraph, otherwise it doesn’t count and I can’t give you a prize! Make sure to take a picture of it so I can know that you followed every step. Have fun and Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!

Grade 5 - FBMS Course Selection Reminder
Dear 5th Grade Students and Parents,
We are very excited for the Class of 2032 to join the Furnace Brook Middle School community this fall! It was wonderful to see so many 5th Grade Families at the informational night we held last week. At that event, I alluded to some upcoming communication about Course Selection, and this letter is about that very topic.
At this time, the FBMS Course Selection window is open in the Aspen Portal. 6th Grade students select their FBMS Music Course through that Portal. The following subjects are required courses for all Grade 6 students. A complete description of these courses is available on the FBMS website under “Program of Studies.”
Grade 6 English/Language Arts
Grade 6 Mathematics
Grade 6 Science
Grade 6 Social Studies
6th Grade Foundations
Grade 6 Art (1/2 year)
Grade 6 Health (1/2 year)
Grade 6 Physical Education
Grade 6 Music (Band, Orchestra/Strings, Chorus, or Music Appreciation)*
*All incoming 6th grade students must request a music course (Band, Orchestra/Strings, Chorus, or Music Appreciation), and will do so via Aspen, the district’s secure, web-based Student Information System. All music classes are full-year courses.
Please follow the directions provided via email to make a Music course selection for Grade 6. Your child’s course selection must be completed by Monday, March 24, 2025. Students who do not request and post a Music course by the deadline will have a Music course chosen for them. The course descriptions for FBMS Music Courses can be found here.
Instructions for Selecting a Music Course in the Aspen Portal:

If you have questions about Music course selections, you can reach out to your child’s current music teacher or classroom teacher, or you can email FBMS Guidance Counselor Lori Damphouse (ldamphouse@mpsd.org). Lori and I look forward to visiting all of your children at their elementary schools in the coming months! Stay tuned for more information about preparing for your child to join us at Furnace Brook Middle School next year!
Sincerely,

Enrichment Update
EWS PTO sponsored an enrichment program for Grades 1 and 2 on 3/13 - an Author/Illustrator Visit from Emilie Boon (www.emilieboon.com/about/). Emilie explored the process of illustrating books, including the importance of adding details and editing. After a group presentation for each grade, every class participated in a 30-minute workshop where they illustrated their own books using crayons and watercolor. The students loved it and were so creative! Thank you to all that donate to BOOST which funds valuable enrichment programs like this!
