Unlock Your Future: Four Steps to Cracking the Code of Career Pathways
At Goshen High School, we are dedicated to helping every student find their path to success. Whether you're exploring colleges, considering career centers, or staying at GHS to earn industry credentials, our comprehensive approach ensures that you are equipped with the knowledge and experiences needed to make informed decisions about your future. In this edition of the Where To Wednesday Newsletter, we break down the four essential steps to connecting with a career pathway that aligns with your strengths and passions.
Four Steps to Crack the Code of Connecting to a Career Pathway:
1. Assess: Did you know that aptitudes solidify around the age of 15? That’s why, at Goshen High School, we assess our 9th graders to help them discover where their interests and aptitudes lie. We call this assessment The Grit Assessment. It’s lengthy but worth it, and it will be broken up into multiple sessions throughout the school year for 9th graders. This foundational step sets the stage for your future choices.
2. Coach: Understanding your strengths is crucial for making informed decisions about your future. At Goshen, we provide 1-on-1 coaching sessions for 10th graders to discuss assessment results. These sessions will be scheduled with a trained career coach who will walk you through your assessment results part by part and help you consider some pathways that match your strengths and interests. This guidance can help you explore options such as colleges, career centers, dual credit programs at GHS, or staying at GHS to earn industry credentials and seals.
3. Discover Where Talents Align: Did you know that just one exposure to a career can make an impact, and three exposures can really make the light bulbs come on, giving you a clearer perspective of future possibilities? This step is all about identifying where your natural abilities meet your passions. It’s about discovering the pathways that align with your strengths and interests. At GHS, we strive for our students to accumulate 250 hours of work-based learning experiences over their high school career, giving you multiple opportunities to explore and solidify your career interests.
4. Engage: Now that you've assessed, coached, and discovered, it's time to engage in the multitude of pathways available to you. At Goshen High School, we want our students to be a part of internships or start working in conjunction with their senior year, turning the things you're learning in school into real-world experiences. Seniors in good standing academically and credit-wise can be released to participate in work-based learning off campus.
It is important to know that your present does not determine your future; so many opportunities await you. Currently, there is a workforce shortage in many sectors—the problem is an exposure gap, not a talent gap. During Warrior Bell on Wednesday, each GHS grade level will discuss important aspects of these four steps to crack the code. Pay attention to the Warrior Up Bell content—it is crucial to many next steps, college, and career readiness opportunities for you.

Spaulding Elementary
STEM Lab at Spaulding Elementary!
STEM is being taught as a special this year at SPAULDING. All students in grades 3-5 get a chance to come to the STEM Lab once a week for 40 minutes. Right now each grade level is working on 5 challenges in order to try and survive a harsh environment. All 3 grades are creating shelters at the moment. Each grade level will get a chance to work with coding robots in December and 3D printing with TINKERCAD after Winter Break. On top of this, we will be doing hands-on with science standards in each grade level to support what they are learning in their classrooms. This will include learning about chicken life cycles in 3rd grade as we have an incubator and chicken eggs and watch them hatch, as well as creating sound-proof boxes in 5th grade.

Early College Application Deadlines are Approaching!
Seniors, are you headed towards College? it’s time to get focused on your college applications! With Early Action and Early Decision deadlines just around the corner, it's crucial to stay organized and informed about the various deadlines that can impact your college admissions and scholarship opportunities.
Here’s a quick breakdown of the different application types and important dates:
Early Decision
- Binding application. You can apply to only one school using this option, and if accepted, you’re required to attend that school. Be sure to research if your top-choice school offers Early Decision, as not all do!
Early Action
- Non-binding application, meaning you can apply to multiple schools and aren’t obligated to attend if accepted. Many Early Action deadlines coincide with scholarship opportunities, so don’t miss out!
- Earliest Early Action Deadline: October 15 – just **41 days away**!
- Schools like Ohio State, Miami (OH), and Purdue have an Early Action deadline of November 1.
- Other schools, such as the University of Cincinnati, have their Early Action deadline on December 1.
Rolling Admissions
- Some schools accept applications on a rolling basis, meaning they review applications as they come in and will continue offering spots until their class is full. If you’re considering this option, submitting early can give you a better chance of acceptance!
Regular Deadline
- This is the final date to submit your application. While many schools may continue accepting applications after this date if space allows, it’s best to meet the initial deadline to maximize your chances.
So...What’s Next?
Take time this week to create a timeline of the schools you're applying to and their specific deadlines. Start finalizing your application materials now to avoid last-minute stress. Remember, applying early often gives you the best chance at scholarships and priority consideration.
Stay on top of things by reading next week’s Where To Wednesday for tips on what to include in your college application essays and how to gather your recommendation letters!
