Happy January, DLC families ! We hope your holiday was filled with happy memories and all of our students are ready to finish the second half of the school year strong !
Please remember that Monday, January 6th is a Professional Development Day for our staff. Students do not return to school until Tuesday, January 7th.
Parents, please remember how important it is to have our students at school each day and at school on time each day. Students must be in class a certain amount of time each day in order to be promoted each year. If students are continuously signed in late or being picked up early, they are missing important instruction and that missed time does add up and will have a negative impact on their academic progress. We appreciate your help with this!
Parents, please have your students read their AR books to you each night. If they are not bringing their books home with them, please remind them to do so. We need to build student reading stamina in every single grade level. This will help students succeed academically and when they are doing standardized testing in the spring. Our SCREADY tests have numerous long passages that students must read and then answer questions about and if they are not practicing this reading now, they will struggle with testing in the spring. Each school year, we expect students to have at least one year's growth in reading and we desperately need your help at home at night.
Parents, PLEASE be practicing math facts with your students. Students that are not performing well in math are doing so because they have not mastered their addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division facts. Students should know these facts by memory. We have lots of flashcards, if you would like some to practice with your child. Simply contact us and we will be glad to send them home. We also have practice tests. This is such an important skill that students will need for the rest of their lives, so PLEASE help us with them!
