Arrival at HPE
Important things to remember to make sure your student is not tardy:
- Students must be inside the school doors by 7:45 (8:45 on Fridays). Anyone arriving after that time will be considered tardy.
- All school doors close by 7:45. Anyone arriving after that time will need to go through the front doors to be let in.
- Announcements for the day begin at 7:46. If you are arriving at 7:46 or after you may be asked to wait a couple of minutes until the announcements are finished.
We appreciate your support.
Leaving Early?
- Help us ease front office congestion! Pick your student up from school by 2 p.m., especially on Fridays.
- Minimizing commotion the last 1/2 hour of the day helps us meet safety protocols.
- Is your student leaving early? Notify our front office staff (816.986.2250 or heather.wathan@lsr7.net) by Noon.
We'll inform necessary parties, and prepare your student to exit efficiently when you visit.

Cold Weather
As the colder weather begins to set in, we would like to remind you that recess will continue to be held outdoors, even in cold temperatures. It is important for students to be prepared for outdoor recess by dressing appropriately with coats and gloves.
Tips for Cold Weather Preparedness
Dress Warmly: Ensure your child wears a warm coat and gloves to protect against the cold.
Label Clothing: It is a good idea to put your child's name inside their coats. This way, if they leave them outside, they can be returned promptly.
Weather Guidelines for Outdoor Recess
We use a 20-degree temperature guideline for determining when recess is held indoors.
If the wind chill or temperature falls below 20 degrees, we will stay inside for recess
Please ensure your child is equipped for the winter weather so they can enjoy their time outdoors safely and comfortably. Thank you for your cooperation!
Teacher of the Year
This is a quick note to let you know that the nomination form for Excellence in Teaching/Teacher of the Year Awards AND Support Professional of the Year is open.
Please note that this window is earlier than in past years. Our nomination window will remain open from Dec. 5, 2024 through Monday, Jan. 13, 2025 so that we can host our Excellence in Teacher/Teacher of the Year and Support Professional of the Year reception on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at Lee's Summit West ahead of spring break.
Big thanks to our partners at the Chamber of Commerce who support our Excellence in Teaching/Teacher of the Year program with us! As a reminder this is how the awards program works:
Excellence in Teaching Awards: Given annually to twelve teachers, counselors or library media specialists etc (certificated staff) who embody overall dedication and excellence in LSR7.
Teachers of Distinction Awards: Given annually to three former Excellence In Teaching recipients who have been nominated again.
Support Professional Awards: Given annual to six staff members who are serving in a role that is not teacher-certificated or administrative.
Excellence In Teaching or Teacher of Distinction recipients may choose to interview for LSR7's Teacher of the Year award, part of the state program.
Recall that for the past couple of years, our process has been all digital. All members of our school community - parents, students, staff etc. - are welcome to nominate.
You can access our nomination form here and are welcome to share it.
