Principal's Corner
This is it - the last few days of the school year!
It has been an honor being your children's principal this year. Reflecting on the past months, I am filled with pride seeing how much our students have grown and accomplished. Together, we have worked through challenges, built relationships, and diligently applied ourselves to acquiring valuable life skills and knowledge.
We waved goodbye to our 8th graders last Tuesday, and amidst our exams, we're delighting in the fun themes of Spirit Week. We are also taking time to responsibly close out the school year by returning and gathering supplies - please take the time to carefully read the newsletter for more in-depth details.
In these final days together, let's make every moment count. Our hard work will surely yield great results. Study hard, play hard, and let's finish strong. Wishing each and every one of you a fantastic summer ahead!
Staff Shout-Out Opportunity
The middle school team works hard to ensure your child is safe, learning, and a valued member of our building. If you'd like to commend a staff member for their exceptional work, please click here to complete this form. We look forward to sharing your positive messages with staff and our families alike.
8th Grade Farewell Night Recap
Thursday night GHMS had a formal ceremony bidding farewell to our 8th graders. Dressed in their finest and surrounded by family and friends, it was an evening filled with pride and excitement. Awards were presented for excellence in various subjects as well as for their character development over the years, and the Middle School Intermediate band serenaded us.
As the evening concluded, each student received a unique parting gift: two nails. These nails are symbolic of our belief in our students' potential. One nail represents their high school diploma, while the second nail signifies their future endeavors. We asked our students’ families to hang these nails in their home, serving as a reminder of our collective hope for their child’s future, and motivating their children to work toward these goals.
Farewell, 8th graders, and best wishes as you embark on your high school journey and beyond! At Godwin Heights Public Schools, we have full confidence in our students' ability to achieve greatness and leave a positive mark on the world.

8th Grade Trip to Michigan’s Adventure
When: Today (Wednesday, May 29, 2024)
Students are to arrive ON TIME (school starts at 7:30, so on time means BEFORE that).
Departure: 8:45 AM from Godwin Middle School by bus, traveling to Michigan’s Adventure Amusement Park (4750 Whitehall Rd, Muskegon, MI 49445)
- Late students or students who did not meet the expectations will remain at school with a staff member to work on missing assignments and study for exams.
Return: Approximately 4:00 PM at Godwin Middle School. Students will need a way home from school.
FAQs:
- Students paid $35 to cover transportation, park entrance, and lunch. Students should bring extra money for extra drinks, snacks, games, and locker rentals. MI Adventure is a cashless campus, but there are cash-to-card kiosks at the park.
- The water park will NOT be open.
Behavior Expectations:
- Keep the bus clean.
- Personal electronics are permitted but are the student's responsibility. The school is not responsible for any electronic devices or personal belongings.
- Students are to respect all laws and park rules or parents will be called to provide transportation home from the park. Students will NOT be allowed to ride the bus back home with their classmates if they break any laws or park rules.
Guardians signed the following acknowledgement: As a parent/guardian, I am fully aware of the risk and danger involved in attending an amusement park such as Michigan’s Adventure and in traveling the distance from Grand Rapids to Muskegon. I will not hold the Godwin Heights Public Schools or the 8th Grade staff responsible or liable for any theft or any accidents to my child during the course of the trip. I further agree to come get my child at Michigan’s Adventure should he/she be caught in any illegal act including, but not limited to: stealing, smoking, drinking alcohol, or taking illegal drugs. I hereby give the eighth grade staff permission to act as guardian of my child in the event of an emergency requiring medical treatment.
Spirit Week
It's Spirit Week!
Tuesday was Wacky Day! We embraced the opportunity to dress outrageously with mismatched items, bright colors, and crazy hats.
Wednesday (Today): Twin Day or Culture Day! We hope you dressed up as twins, or proudly displayed your cultural heritage with traditional attire.
Thursday is PJ Day! Enjoy ultimate comfort by coming to school in your favorite pajamas. Just remember to keep them school-appropriate.
Friday: Godwin Gear Day! Show off your school pride by decking yourself out in our school colors and apparel.
Let's make this last week one to enjoy remember!
Chromebook Collection
All items from the technology department must be returned by Friday, May 31st, following the students' final exams. Each student is required to submit a computer, its case, and charger. Should any item be absent, the tech department will issue an invoice for the missing item(s).
All student devices will be gathered on the last day of school, regarless if they are registered for summer school. Devices for summer school will be re-distributed at a later date.
