SCHOOL FOCUS FOR 2023-24:
Based on our data from last year, our instructional priorities for the current school year are as follows:
We will provide engaging and differentiated instruction to all students in mathematics incorporating real-life problem-solving scenarios.
We will foster students’ social-emotional well-being with a focus on emotional regulation through community building and mindfulness strategies.

DEI UPDATE
Rosh Hashanah [Sep 15 - Sep 17]
Many important Jewish holidays occur in the fall. The first are Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, which are collectively referred to as the High Holidays (Holy Days). This year, Rosh Hashanah starts at sundown on Friday, September 15, and lasts for two days, ending at sundown on Sunday, September 17. Jewish holidays run from sundown to sundown, rather than midnight to midnight as most secular holidays do.
Rosh Hashanah is known as the Jewish New Year. In observance of the holiday, Jews do not do any work and instead spend time at a synagogue or in reflection about the year past and the year to come. It is traditional to eat apples dipped in honey and honey cake (honey representing sweetness that is hoped for in the New Year). On Rosh Hashanah, Jews eat round challah instead of the straight ones enjoyed through the year, because the round shape represents the year coming full circle. Pomegranates are also a sweet fruit that is traditionally enjoyed at this time.
Because the words Rosh Hashanah are transliterated (put into English letters) from the Hebrew, you will see different spellings of the name.
National Hispanic Heritage Month [Sep 15 - Oct 15]
“Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.
“The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988, on the approval of Public Law 100-402.
“The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September18, respectively. Also, Columbus Day or Día de la Raza, which is October 12, falls within this 30 day period.”
