South School Families,

What a Busy Week at South School!

This week has been packed with exciting events! On Monday, our kindergarten through second graders got a special visit from the Andover Police Department, learning all about the important role they play in our community. Tuesday brought Top Secret Science to our fourth graders (a huge thank-you to our amazing PTO!), and on Wednesday, our kindergarten classes enjoyed a fall day at Parlee Farms. We wrapped up the week with a fun family movie night, thanks again to our wonderful PTO!

Looking Ahead to Halloween

We’ll be celebrating Halloween on Thursday, October 31st, for students who’d like to join in. Students (K-5) are welcome to wear costumes if they choose. Just a few reminders: costumes should be school-friendly, with no masks or items that represent violence (like fake blood or weapons). Costumes should also allow students to fully participate in the day’s activities.

Kindergarten Parade Details

Our Kindergarten parade will be held outdoors at 9:30 a.m., and parents are warmly invited to join us outside to watch the fun! In case of rain, the parade will move indoors for staff and students only.

Thank you to the PTO for a fun and engaging activity for our South community! What a great night!

Take a look at the incredible scarecrows made by South School. Mrs. Chapin and Mrs. Babbist created the scarecrow with third and fifth graders and it is hung up in front of our school with the ACE pumpkin patch. Our other three scarecrows are hung up downtown. What creativity! Thank you to ACE for supporting our schools.

South Cooperative Theater would like to share the following information about the spring musical – get out your calendars! (We don’t yet have a signed contract, so we can not yet officially announce the title of the show.)

REHEARSAL DAYS:

There will be a change of rehearsal days this year. Faculty meeting have been moved by the district to Wednesdays, so rehearsals will be held on:

• Mondays, 3:45 – 5:45 (new rehearsal day)
• Tuesdays, 3:45 – 5:45
• Fridays, 3:45 – 5:15

AUDITIONS

Auditions for interested students in grade 3-4-5 will be held after Thanksgiving break – more details to follow.

PERFORMANCES:

There will be three performances of the musical – March 7, 8, and 9. Performances will be held at West Middle School auditorium. Mark your calendars now!

Our students are planning a food drive to help others in need! See below.

We would like to thank the community for their attendance and participation at the “Let’s Talk! Redistricting Orientation” held on Thursday, October 24th. To review the presentation, please click here.

We are looking for community feedback as we begin the process of creating a redistricting plan. Either the QR code or this link will open a survey for all in the Andover community to take part. The survey will close on Friday, November 1, 2024.

This year's Book Fair will be held the week of November 4, 2024 - November 8, 2024 and we need volunteers to help run the event. Parents can sign-up for their child's library time or any other time. Just make sure you have an approved CORI form on file with the main office. Click here for the CORI form!

We are excited to once again partner with MANN ORCHARDS for our annual Thanksgiving Pie Sale! Detailed information on the flyer below. Orders are due 11/4 and pie pick-up will be on 11/26. You can purchase pies via Venmo @SouthPTO (include first & last name, phone number, order) or you can CLICK HERE!!

All students are able to receive 1 free breakfast and 1 free lunch daily during the 2024-2025 school year. Breakfast will be served in the cafeteria from 8:45 - 9:00 and does not need to be ordered ahead of time.

Lunches will need be preordered. It is very important that our cafeteria has an accurate lunch count each day. Please review with your children each morning what you have ordered for them.
