Religious Life of the School
Today (Friday 13th September) the whole School gathered together to celebrate the beginning of a new academic year with a liturgy at St Pius X. The children were very respectful and sang beautifully. Gospel: Who do the people say that I am? (John 8:27-35)
Using the Wednesday Word link below, read this Sunday’s Gospel and reflect on the questions below with your family. You will have an opportunity to discuss them again next week in School.
https://www.paperturn-view.com/uk/wednesday-word/messenger?pid=MTA101634&v=5.5
- Why do you think Jesus asked his disciples, “Who do the people say I am?”?
- Jesus asked his disciples, “Who do you say I am?”? What would you have said?
- Peter called Jesus ‘The Christ’ What does Christ mean and why do you think Jesus wanted this to be a secret?
- What did Jesus predict was going to happen? Can you put it in your own words?
New time to end the School day
We remind parents that as from Monday 16th September the School day will finish at 3.20pm instead of 3.15pm. Adding this extra time will bring the School into line with the recent Governments guidelines for the minimum length of the school day.
School Uniform
As you will be aware St Charles is a uniform school. This means that it is an expectation that all children will wear the appropriate uniform each day. Please ensure that your child has the correct School uniform, (including ties!) and that they have their name clearly written on each item. You can obtain a list for the School uniform from the office or on the website. Thank you for your support in this matter.
Contact Details
It is a requirement that the school has a minimum of 2 emergency telephone contact numbers for your child. We need to be able to contact you at all times. It is vitally important that we have your up to date contact details. If your phone number/s or address have changed, please inform the office ASAP.
Weduc
All school related expenses eg. dinner money for Nursery, uniform etc. should be paid for using Weduc. Uniform items ordered via Weduc should be collected from the school office after 2 working days from the day of purchase. Please contact the School of you need help with this
Attendance
We are working towards achieving 96% attendance this academic year. Please help us to achieve this by ensuring that your child attends School each day and by not booking any holiday during term time. Please be aware that holiday leave in term time cannot be authorised. There is strong correlation between good attendance and good progress. So together, let’s give our children the best possible chance of reaching their potential.
Child/ ren Absence
In the event of your child being absent, you must let the office know. It is the School’s Safeguarding Policy that you phone the office by 9.15am each day your child is absent, as the school has a legal responsibility and a duty of care to know where your child is between 9am and 3.20pm. A text will be sent to parents if an absence is not reported. If we do not receive a reason for an absence, it will automatically be recorded as unauthorised. All doctor and dentist appointments should be booked outside school hours when possible. The office should be informed in advance when your child has a medical appointment.
Medicines
We are currently updating our records. If your child has an ongoing allergy or medical need, please inform the school. If your child has an allergy that requires an EpiPen or is prescribed an asthma pump, please bring in their Allergy Action Plan or Asthma Plan to the office asap. There should be two EpiPens per child in school, that are both in date.
Wraparound care
From 23rd September, afterschool care for St Charles will be provided by Aktiva at a new hub based at Ark Brunel. The Aktiva provision at Ark Brunel will be available to children from Nursery to Year 6 and will run from 3.30pm to 6.00pm. The walking bus will continue to operate to take children from St Charles to Ark Brunel to attend this afterschool provision. Details of how to costs and how to book have been sent to all parents.
Aktiva will be at St Charles on Monday 16th September from 2.45pm in the hall to meet parents, explain the provision and answer any questions. There will also be a zoom meeting at 6.30pm for parents who cannot attend in person. Joining instructions have been sent to all parents.
Our very popular Breakfast Club will continue to run at St Charles from 8am as it does now.
Phase meetings
Next week there will be an opportunity for parents/carers to attend a meeting with their child’s class teacher. This will be done in Key Phases. UKS2 on Wednesday 18th September at 3.25pm in the Hall, LKS2 on Thursday 19th at 3.25pm in the Hall and KS1 on Friday 20th September at 3.25pm in the Hall.
(Please note the Secondary Transfer meeting is on Wednesday 18th September and will take place directly after the above Key Phase meeting in the Hall).
Secondary Transfer
There will be a Secondary Transfer meeting on Wednesday 18th September 2024 at 3.45 in the school Hall. This will be after the UKS2 Phase meeting in the Hall. (See above). The Local Authority application form should be returned to the Borough in which you reside by 31st October 2024. The supplementary information form(s) should be returned to the individual school(s). If you decide to take your child/ren to an open morning, please inform the school office or bring in any test letter you may receive so your child/ren can be marked in accordingly on the register. Please make an appointment to see Ms Hampton if you would like to discuss this further.
After School Clubs
After school clubs will start on Monday 23rd September. There are still spaces available in some of the clubs. Please remember that children attending all after school clubs (except Art club) must wear their full St Charles PE kit- no other kits are permitted. Thank you.
Year 6 positions of responsibility
Congratulations to, Nicole, our Head Girl for the forthcoming year. She will be assisted by Zara who is taking on the role of Deputy Head Girl. Kidus has been appointed Head Boy and Caelan is Deputy Head Boy. These pupils will be excellent ambassadors for our school this year and we wish them well. We have also appointed prefects to other roles of responsibility. Our Year 6s have made a great start and are enjoying being at the top of the school.
Reading
The new school year has begun and at St Charles, we LOVE to read so last Friday, we celebrated National Read a Book Day! The children enjoyed taking part in extra reading activities and spending time reading in our school library!
Music
Sing, sing, sing! We had a real treat on Tuesday singing with Dom from the Notting Hill Community Children's Choir. We sounded great too singing in a round. We raised the roof!
School Values
This half term our focus value is Aspiration. Before half term the staff will identify children from across the School who have shown consistent aspiration. These children will receive a certificate, an own clothes day and afternoon tea with Ms Hampton. As part of celebrating this value, we have replaced the weekly Action Hero certificate with a new Aspirational Hero certificate. (See below for this weeks winners).
Aspirational and Learning Heroes
Congratulations to the following children who were recognised for making good choices during the week beginning 9th September.
