Once a Raider, Always a Raider
Amazing, Raider Families,
“Excellence is not attained by chance. It must be sought for with ardor and attended to with diligence.” ~Abigail Adams~
On Friday, we saw the opening ceremony that heralded the 2024 Games of the Olympiad. Since that day, we have already witnessed "the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat." I, myself, enjoyed watching multiple events today and felt the adrenaline that must be coursing through these athlete's bodies. The margin that separates victory and defeat is so slim or wide. It can be 29 hundredths of a second or it could be wide indicating a blowout. Regardless, these athletes prepare to increase their margins of victory by attending to the skills that put them in elite status. As the quote explicity states, you do not get to levels of excellence like these athletes by chance. Many of them have worked diligently for hours on end, on a daily basis, just so they get to compete in these games. Chasing excellence is a choice. Students, it is important to remember that your journey of excellence at SOH has just begun. It is easy to begin strong. It is harder to maintain pursuing excellence throughout the whole year and finish strong. To encourage you to pursue excellence, here are 10 thing things that cost zero talent but will not only get you respect, it will support your pursuit of excellence.
- Being on time
- Strong Work Ethic
- Effort
- Body Language
- Energy
- Being Prepared
- Passion
- Being Coachable
- Doing Extra
- 100% Great Attitude
Being on Time for School and Each Period
Students, as I have stated many times, being on time is a sign of character. Why? Because it shows that you value and honor other people's times. Many freshmen and other new students are still finding their way around school. We will continue to assist you and getting to your classes on time. If you are not new, then there is no reason for you to be tardy to classes becuase you already know the way. Set an example for our new students. Let's do this together.
Picture Day is this Week
Students, you will be getting your picture taken in English class this week. This will be for your ID and yearbook. It is important to note that no face coverings, such as a mask, will be allowed. Thank you for honoring this directive.

Birthday Celebrations

Class Change Requests
On Monday, July 29, 2024, the counselors will send out a google form that you will complete if you are requesting to change a class. Your counselor will call you out with pass, if the change is possible. Be advised that we are not changing classes due to teacher preferences unless there is evidence of prior conflict with a teacher.
Main Office Entrance Has been Relocated
In an effort to increase our safety measures, the main office door has been relocated to the side door next to my office. You will see the signage as you enter. The old entrance will remain locked. A work order has been entered to install a fob there so that we can add it to our fobs. Thank you for your support in this matter.
Families, let's have an amazing week!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Finley
