Lambs Ledger
April 2024
Message from the Principal, Jamie McCarthy
As the year is coming to a close, it is now the time for our students to show us how much they have learned. It has been such a joy to be in the classrooms and watch our students mature academically and socially. This time of year can be overwhelming with the added stress of end of the year assessments. I like to focus on the reason why we need to administer them. As educators, we need to know where students are performing so we can make a plan to fill in the gaps or accelerate learning. Of course we encourage students to try their best and give 100% so we get the most accurate results possible. However, we are not naïve to the challenges a change in schedule can cause. We have some really fun motivators in place and will find the balance of structure and fun.
I want to recognize your role as parents in your child's education. You are your child's first teacher and we are fortunate to be able to partner with you to engage them as they grow. There are many ways in which you can help set your child up for success; communicate with your teacher, foster healthy attendance habits, and read! We are always here to lend a guiding hand or assist in any way. We want parents to be our partners, because we know that it takes everyone working together to develop successful, happy children. We are here for you! While you have them this summer, please encourage your child to read even if it's below their level. Continuing to grow their vocabulary and learn to love learning will help them in their educational journey. In elementary school, we are building the foundation, let's make it as strong as we can!
Thank you for supporting our school as we strive for excellence everyday!

Special Area News
PE with Coach Wilber:
CD/K--we have been learning about the April muscle of the month, the heart muscle, and watched a quick video on how the heart works and ways to keep your heart healthy. We revisited our catching skills for the majority of the month and tried some different self catching challenges and will be working on learning some more Tag Games and finishing the year with our striking and hitting skills unit.
1st/2nd/3rd--we have been practicing for Field Day the last two PE classes and now will move into one of our last full units, striking and hitting using long handled implements. (badminton, pool noodle games, basically anything used to hit a ball.) We also will be finishing the school year with kickball, tball, baseball type games and will continue to be outside as much as possible.
4th/5th--we will begin our last full unit of the school year, long handled implements, by learning how to play badminton and throwing a ball using a plastic scoop. The last few PE classes we will begin our final fitness testing of the school year and play kickball to finish our school year out.
As always if you have any questions or need further clarifications please don't hesitate to reach out or send a message. Please double check your child's PE day so your child has the proper footwear so that they can be successful in PE class!!
Thanks for all your support and help with making Field Day a success!! Have a great month!!
Library with Ms. Smith: Happy National School Library Month, Lambs!
We are gearing up for Summer Reading here at Lambs and will have the Charleston County Public Library Children's Department from the Dorchester Road branch come to speak to all grades on Friday, May 10th in the Lambs Library! CCPL will share all of the prizes and expectations of students if they want to be involved in the summer reading program through their local library this year!
Ms. Smith will help each class enroll in this summer reading program in each student's Beanstack account so they can access it easily over the summer to log their minutes!
Please use this document to learn how to access Beanstack with your child over the summer and don't forget to visit your local CCPL branch to take advantage of all of the free and fun activities they have year round!

Art with Ms. Bowers: WOW! What an awesome May we’ve had in the Lambs Elementary Art Room! We are looking forward to the Art show on May 24th! We have worked super hard in the art room this year and it truly shows! I’m so proud of each and every artist that walks through the art room door, does their best, and tries their hardest. It shows in your artwork! Keep an eye out in the next few weeks for portfolios to go home containing all of these artworks made throughout the school year. Ask your student to give you an art show of their very own once they get them home! Thank you for an awesome school year so far! Let’s make some more art these last few weeks and have a creative, fun, art-filled summer!
