SHADY GROVE MATTERS WEEKLY UPDATE
May 5, 2024
THE ADMINISTRATOR'S CORNER
Greetings Shady Grove Families! We are officially in May, and as we enter the final stretch of the school year there are many exciting end-of-year activities we would like to share with you. This month we honor and celebrate Asian American Native Hawaiian & Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month and Jewish-American Heritage Month by learning about these cultures, contributions, and history. May 6 through May 10 marks National Teacher Appreciation Week. As writer Kij Johnson puts “Some people change the world. And some people change the people who change the world, and that's you [teachers].” We are beyond thankful for all that our incredible educators do to foster a positive, safe, welcoming, and engaging learning environment for all of our students. In addition to celebrating all of our fabulous educators, we would like to Congratulate our very own Math department content specialist and teacher, Ms. Stewart on earning the prestigious title of a National Board Certification Teacher [NBCT]. Throughout the week all students will take the Spring Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) Test in their English and Math classes. Please make sure to remind your children to continue to do their best! Our spring soccer season is coming to a close, and our boys and girls teams each have two games this week with the girls playing at home for both games. This Tuesday 5/7, our girls play the makeup game against Gaithersburg MS while our boys are away and on Thursday 5/9 our girls play against Argyle MS while our boys are away. We hope you come out to support and cheer on our Timberwolves in their season's final games! This Thursday 5/9 is the final day for after-school activities and after-school transportation. Also on Thursday 5/9, come out and celebrate Shady Grove’s annual Multicultural Night. This is our largest community event of the year! Please join us as we celebrate the diverse cultures that makeup Timberwolf Nation. We encourage families to bring food, set up tables to represent their culture, come dressed in traditional clothing, and/or come to sample food from the rest of our rich community. Students can earn 2 SSL hours for helping prepare and share a dish. On Friday 5/10, our 8th grade students will take their 8th grade panoramic photo. That is all for now #TimberwolfNation! Wishing you all a fantastic week!
~Ms. Merino
