Falcon Express Update to Families
March 12, 2024
Message from Principal Higgs
Dear Falcon Families,
I hope this message finds you well. We are approaching the end of the third marking quarter, and we have started benchmark exams. You can check the schedule below. This week, we will also begin boost camp interventions through PRIDE time. Student groups were created using achievement data, and students will engage in either intervention or enrichment tailored to their personal achievement markers. We will continue boost camps for the next six weeks.
We are proud to announce the successes of our students in both academic areas and performing and fine arts. Our Intermezzo received many positive comments on their performance at the Florida Orchestra Association's Music Performance Assessment. Vivace received an Excellent on-stage for concert performance and Superior in sight-reading under the direction of Dr. Richardson! This marks Millennium's return to the upper tier of Florida's Orchestra Programs. Our Band students also participated in Music Performance Assessments and received a total of 43 superiors and nine excellent ratings under the direction of Mr. Netterville.
Our Jr. Thespians also participated in performance assessments and received six superiors, three excellent, and one good rating under the direction of Ms. Bland and Ms. Davison. This past weekend, we competed in the SCPS Math Festival and were among the top six in the competition for 6th-grade standard, ramp 6, 7th-grade standard, and pre-algebra. Alyssa Stephens won third place in the competition, and Millennium received the team spirit award. Thank you to Ms. Bravo, our instructional math coach, for organizing our participation in the event. A special thanks to our site team who supported the event, Ms. Ryan, Mr. Vargas, Mr. McDonald, Ms. Cassanova, Ms. Handler, and Ms. Keller.
The Fusion Dance Team competed this past weekend and once again placed first in all competing categories: Team, choreography, and technique. Congratulations to our Fusion dance team and Coach Galarza, Coach Wynn, and Coach Diamond.
Thank you to all of our parent volunteers for assisting with each of these events, as your partnership is invaluable to our students' success.
We value your feedback, and we are grateful for your partnership. We are conducting a short survey that will allow you to provide input about Millennium's School-Parent Compact and our Parent Family Engagement Plan. We always strive to make improvements and enhance the programs and connections we have with our families. Please access the two short surveys located below and let your voice be heard!

COMPULSORY ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENT
Pursuant to Florida Statute 232.01, a high school student enrolled in Seminole County Public Schools who is under the age of 16 is required to attend school regularly during the entire term. Pursuant to Florida Statute 230.22(2), the School Board of Seminole County, Florida, has adopted a Compulsory Attendance Policy, File JEA, which states, “A student is expected to attend all school sessions unless excused by a proper school authority.”
A student is absent for the entire day if he or she misses more than ½ of the school day. All absences are recorded as unexcused until the student returns and provides documentation concerning the absence's reason.
EXCUSED ABSENCE DOCUMENTATION
In requesting an absence to be EXCUSED, the student must provide the school’s attendance office with documentation indicating that one of the following has occurred if he/she wishes that absence(s) to be excused:
1. Medical treatment by a licensed physician*
2. Observation of a religious holiday
3. Law enforcement order or court subpoena
4. Death of a family member
5. Natural Disaster
6. Traffic accident that directly involved the student
7. A parent may write a note for 10 total days
SCPS Finding Your Voice Summit
Our 6th and 7th-grade female students had the opportunity to take part in the "Finding Your Voice: SCPS Girls Summit" held at UCF. This summit was organized to bring together educational leaders who could inspire and empower girls to gain confidence, leadership skills, and communication abilities to discover and express their passions and ambitions, and plan a pathway towards achieving them. During the summit, the girls participated in various sessions such as "Who I am," "Unleashing the Power of Confidence," Vision Board Creation, and Yoga. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our chaperones and everyone involved in making this event happen!
Peace and Justice Institute Student Summit
The last session with PJI concluded with our teen summit, which had nearly 50 students in attendance. Students were immersed in the Principles of How We Treat Each Other and learned about Positive Adverse Childhood Experiences (PACES) strategies for navigating experiences.

We are getting ready for the 2024-2025 academic year. Friday, February 2, 2024, course selections were emailed to families. We will be closing course selections this Thursday March 14, 2024. If your child has not completed their selections before this date, course will be selected based on their achievement data and available elective choices. There will be no schedule changes granted for elective enrollments in the fall, so please be sure that your child has completed the form.
If you would prefer to have input in your child's classes for next year, please complete this form as soon as possible (by end of day Wednesday at the latest): https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSevLiqBwlz5VQqfgG6jldmOdGirbX_TKXmJ9ScWDmQEZIq4fw/viewform

Campus Safety Reminders
We kindly remind you to be careful and attentive while driving in the car line during drop-off and pick-up times. Please be aware of your surroundings, adhere to the speed limit, and avoid any distractions while driving. The safety of our students and staff is our top priority, and we appreciate your cooperation in ensuring a safe and secure environment for everyone.
Please be advised that for your child's safety, we request that drop-offs on campus should not occur before 9:05 AM. Before this time, no supervision is available, and leaving students unsupervised is considered negligent. We kindly request your cooperation in ensuring your child's safety by not leaving them unattended on campus before 9:05 AM. If you arrive early, please stay with your child until 9:05 AM, when campus supervision begins.
