The Siegrist Star
Week of September 16, 2024
Exciting News from Mrs. McMillian and Mrs. Gilbert's Class!
This past weekend, Allie, Camila from Mrs. Gilbert's class and Sophie from Mrs. McMillian’s class took the initiative to set up a lemonade stand during the Platte City area garage sales. Not only did they sell lemonade, but they also offered baked goods, bracelets, and stuffed animals.
Before starting, these thoughtful students made the decision to donate all the proceeds to our school’s Treasure Chest. Thanks to their hard work, they’ve raised an impressive $575—and donations are still coming in via Venmo!
We’re so proud of their generosity and commitment to helping others. A huge thank you to Allie, Camila, Sophie, and their families for supporting our school community!
PE Bike Lessons
For students with little or no experience, the program offers instruction on how to ride bikes confidently and safely. More experienced bikers enjoyed participating in obstacle courses, where they learned crucial road safety skills. These skills included using hand signals to communicate stops and turns, handling rougher terrain, obeying all traffic signs and laws, riding on the right side of the road, and safely checking for traffic behind them. We are incredibly grateful to Coach Stapleton and Coach Crawford for their dedication and effort in adding this enriching program to their PE unit. Their commitment to student safety and skill development is truly commendable.

Professional Learning Days (PLD)
On Monday, September 16, school will not be in session for our first Professional Learning Community (PLC) day of the 2024-25 school year.
PLC days are designed to establish sustained and uninterrupted time for teachers to work together and collaborate to improve student learning and achievement. This time allows educators to examine and respond to the four basic fundamental questions of a Professional Learning Community:
- What is it we want students to learn?
- How will we know when each student has achieved the learning?
- How will we respond when a student is not learning?
- How will we respond when we know a child has mastered the learning?
For more information on PCR-3's Professional Learning Community, visit the PLC page on the District's website.
Parents are encouraged to opt-in for text notification PLC Day reminders by texting "YES" to 67587 (standard text messaging fees apply). All no school and early release days are also listed on the District calendar.
Support Childhood Cancer Awareness Month: Wear Gold on September 30
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and our District is coming together to show support. On September 30, we encourage all students, staff, and community members to wear gold in honor of those impacted by childhood cancer. Many of our PCR-3 families have been affected by this disease, and by wearing gold, we stand in solidarity with them. Let’s raise awareness and show our support for these brave children and their families as we work towards a future without childhood cancer.
Elementary Parent/Student Handbook 2024-2025
The last page of the handbook is an acknowledgment that you have received and/or have access to the 2024-25 Handbook for Platte County R-3 School District. By signing this, you and your student agree to understand, follow, and adhere to the rules and procedures outlined in the handbook, as well as any additional rules established by the district.
You can find Board Policies and Parent/Student Handbooks online at www.plattecountyschooldistrict.com or at the District Education Center.
Please print and sign the final page of the handbook to acknowledge your agreement with the policies, and have your student return it to school by October 11, 2024. Your child will be bringing home a copy of the acknowledgment page today.
Bullying and Safety Reporting
Bullying and Safety Reporting
Safety is our District's top priority. PCR-3 has a system of safety and security measures in place, including trained security staff (now at every building following the passage of the Prop C Waiver/Levy Transfer), secure entryways, ongoing monitoring, and partnership with local law enforcement.
We remind parents, staff, and students that school safety is the responsibility of the entire school community. Please follow the principle of "see something, say something." If anyone (student, parent, staff member, community member) sees or hears anything of concern, please contact the District office at (816) 858-5420 so that those concerns can be investigated. You and your child can also easily report tips on bullying, harassment, or any safety issue you're concerned about through our online Safe Schools Alert system. Every tip is immediately logged in the system and our administration is notified so that they can investigate and take appropriate action. Tips may also be submitted anonymously. Each building's website has the Safe Schools icon located within the “quick links” bar on the homepage.
What is Good Attendance?
At least 90% attendance is our goal for every student. This equals missing no more than two days of school per month (18 days per year).
We're here to support your family. Attendance is a partnership between families, students and the school. If something is standing in the way of your student being able to attend school every day, please reach out! We can help find solutions and connect you to resources.
**When a student is absent or needs to be called out of school early, please call the front office at (816) 858-5977. You can leave a message if it is outside of school hours**

Fathers, grandfathers, step-fathers, uncles, and other father figures who volunteer to serve at least one day a year in a variety of school activities as assigned by the school principal or other administrator.
Friendly Parent Reminders
Visitors to the building: you will always need to bring your ID with you when you come into the building. We will scan your ID into our safety system Platte County uses to ensure the safety and security of our students.
Birthday Celebrations-Here is the district policy:
"We believe it is important for the school to recognize our students on their birthday and other special days. However, for several reasons including increased food allergies, preservation of the instructional day, and student equality, students are not allowed to bring treats from home or have flowers/balloons or other items delivered to the classroom for birthdays, going-away parties, or other personal events. Each classroom teacher will recognize the student in a special way to celebrate his or her birthday. (See Snacks for more information about opportunities to share snacks in the classroom) If a student receives a delivery at school, the student will be notified to come to the office to view the item. Parents will be responsible for transporting the item home. Birthday party invitations may only be distributed if invitations are given to every student in the class."
Transportation:
If your child has a transportation change for the day, please call the office before 2:00 PM. This ensures we can process the change in time before dismissal. You may also send a note with your child or email Anne Klopp at klopp.annemaire@pcr3schools.org.
If we do not receive a call, note, or email regarding transportation changes, we will follow the information already in our system to send your child home.

Additionally, please click on the "Transportation Expectations" button below to review important bus and car rider guidelines with your child.
