Letter from the Principal
Dear Loyola Families,
We are very excited to announce we have reached full capacity for our AI Learning Playlab event on Friday, March 28th from 3:30 - 5:00 at Blach. Can’t wait to hear about all that our Lions learn at this event!
State Testing Attendance
All 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th Graders Need to be at School for State Testing. The formal State Testing (CAASPP) window will be April 21 - May 9. All 3rd-6th graders will be testing. It is very important that all students are present during testing times. If a student is absent, s/he will have to make up the test (missing important classroom instruction). In addition, make-ups are logistically difficult to administer. If you already know of appointments scheduled during testing times, please reschedule them so that everyone is present for testing.
Upcoming Assembly:
We are excited to have Dr. Blake Brandes join our students on April 4th for a fun and engaging presentation about the Growth Mindset. Dr. Brandes is a TEDx speaker, America’s Got Talent contestant, and Marshall Scholar who has spoken to more than 500,000 students around the world. During the presentation, our students will learn how to overcome challenges and achieve their dreams by choosing a Growth Mindset! If you have any questions please let me know, and I'll answer them or run them by Blake as needed. Blake is very excited to see you and your students soon! If you would like to order Blake’s books, check out his site here.

PTA News
We are excited to see you all at Loyola’s Ice Cream Social, Thursday, April 17, 5:30-6:30PM! This is a FREE Loyola community, sweet and fun event! Ice cream (sorbet for those who are dairy-free) along with a variety of yummy toppings will be served at the lower grades’ blacktop. We hope you can attend this delicious family event! Please RSVP HERE by April 10.
We are also excited to introduce a NEW Loyola family community event! On Saturday, May 10, 5PM, join us at a SAN JOSE GIANTS game! Tickets are $15/person. Purchase tickets HERE. When purchasing tickets, enter “Loyola” on the first page and then select available seats in Section G! We want to make sure that we are all sitting together and so don’t forget to select seats in Section G!
And, we still need someone (or two!) to lead Loyola at the 78th Annual Los Altos Pet Parade, held on Saturday, May 17 in downtown Los Altos. Bring your furry, feathered, and/or scaly friends to downtown Los Altos to march representing Loyola Elementary in the annual pet parade! It is a small role, but we really need someone to chair. Otherwise, Loyola may be the only LASD school not represented (which would be sad ). Please reach out to Christine (ckerbacorbett@gmail.com) if you can lead or if you want more information!

Cub Scout News
Loyola’s Cub Scouts held an exciting heart-pumping Pinewood Derby event in the Multi Purpose Room on Sunday. We saw impressive speeds, and an incredibly close final elimination between the fastest two cars. Congratulations to Loyola’s own Benji L (2nd Grade) and Margaret H (Kinder) for winning second and third place in the Finals. Benji also took home the best design award for his “No-Moto-Roller” flip-phone inspired car. We look forward to welcoming more Loyola kids to participate in building and racing cars in our Open Division of Pinewood Derby next year.
Orchestras and Bands from Loyola, Oak, Springer, and Blach recently came together to play at the String Night and Band Night concerts. Your donations to LAEF help fund music teachers, making these concerts possible. Thank you!
We’ve hit a milestone! Thank you to those who’ve collectively given $2.8M to LAEF to help fund teachers and staff this year!
Let’s finish the job and raise the final $100K to reach our goal of $2.9M. If you have yet to give this school year, donate to LAEF today and submit for a corporate match if it’s available to you. Gifts of any amount are appreciated!
MARS Assessment 5th & 6th Grade Parent Scorers!
We have a unique opportunity for parents to join us in scoring the MARS tasks. Our scoring day will take place on Saturday, May 17th, from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM and will include teachers, administrators, and parents. This event will be held virtually, allowing you to score from home. As a parent scorer, you'll have an opportunity to see the level of mathematical thinking demonstrated by our students. If you would like to join us, please email Grace Choi, Coordinator of Curriculum and Instruction, at gchoi@lasdschools.org.
