Staff Spotlight
Our spotlight employee for this month is our Speech Pathologist, Angie Golden. Mrs. Golden has been a Speech Pathologist for nineteen years, fourteen of which have been at East Moline Schools. We are fortunate that Angie has been at Bowleburg for the last 9 years.
Mrs. Golden earned her Bachelors Degree in Speech Pathology from Augustana College and her Masters in Speech Pathology from Eastern Illinois University. Originally from Rockridge, Illinois, Mrs Golden, and her husband, Bobby, now make their home in Eldridge, Iowa. They have 2 sons, Bryce, who is a Structural Engineer and Ayden, who is currently in an Electrician Apprenticeship at Tri-City Electrical. In their spare time, Angie and Bobby like to attend all kinds of sporting events
Angie was chosen by her colleagues for many reasons. Since its inception, Mrs. Golden has been a key contributor to the framework and components of the Bowlesburg Structured Learning Classroom (SLC). She developed the students' schedules, assisted in creating many visual resources, developed the communication boards, and has created the students' task boxes. Mrs. Golden spends approximately 2 hours every morning in this classroom working and assisting with our high needs students. She continuously puts these students' needs first by advocating for them at every district level. On top of this, Mrs. Golden is responsible for providing services to all Bowlesburg students who require services in Speech and Language Processing. Angie is very much concerned not only for these students but for all Bowlesburg students as evidenced in her membership in the Building Leadership Committee. She is also attends Leadership Academy Workshops where members of Bowlesburg Staff develop strategic plans to continously improve our school's delivery of academic and social emotional services for our students.
Bowlesburg is very fortunate to have Mrs. Golden. She is someone who works tirelessly, not only for her students with exceptional needs, but for every student at Bowlesburg. Thank you Mrs. Golden for all that you do!
Supporting Your Students At Home
Yes! I Can!
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are thrilled to announce the launch of a new award system designed to celebrate and encourage the achievements and positive behaviors at Bowlesburg Elementary school. This initiative aims to foster a supportive and motivating learning environment where every student feels recognized for their unique contributions.
The Purpose of the New Award System
Our primary goal is to cultivate a culture of recognition and appreciation among our students. By acknowledging both academic achievements and positive social interactions, we hope to inspire students to strive for excellence in all areas of their school life. This system is designed to:
- Motivate students to achieve their personal best.
- Encourage positive behavior and social responsibility.
- Recognize diverse talents and efforts across different domains.
Its aim is to enhance an already existing positive behavior intervention school-wide system (PAWSitive rewards, classroom celebrations, and quarterly celebrations).
The goals will coincide with our Otus work habits. The Otus work habits are on every report card.
How the Award System Works
Teachers and staff will regularly observe and note students accurately displaying the expected work habit of the week. At this point the student will receive a “Yes! I Can!” ticket. At the end of week, three student from each grade will be selected randomly through a drawing. A medal reward will be presented and the students will receive a VIP lunch.
We are excited to implement this new system and look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on our school community. Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership in nurturing our students' success.

Birthday Snacks and School Wellness Policy
If you or your student is planning to bring snacks to school, please follow the District Wellness Policy.
In accordance with the Wellness Policy:
1. ALL SNACKS PROVIDED AT SCHOOL WILL COMPLY WITH THE FEDERAL SMART SNACK GUIDELINES This means that we have to make sure that we are giving students healthy items such as: *fruits and vegetables *low sugar snacks *low fat snacks
2. ALL SNACKS/TREATS BROUGHT INTO THE SCHOOLS MUST BE PREPACKAGED (no homemade treats). Due to the increase in severe food allergies, all food must not only comply with the Smart Snack guidelines but they must also be packaged with a listing of ingredients. Fruits and vegetables do not have to follow this guideline. Healthy snacks are available to purchase from the Food Service Office on the district website.
3. WE ARE MOVING AWAY FROM USING FOOD AS INCENTIVES and FOODS FOR CELEBRATIONS. We want our students to know that celebrating a birthday doesn’t have to mean treats. It can be as simple as a teacher offering a special activity for that child to celebrate a birthday. Please see our website for more information regarding our new wellness initiatives.
