Dear Pine Creek Families,
As we near the end of another incredible school year, I want to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude and reflect on the growth we've all experienced. Our students have made incredible strides in reading, math, science, and writing, and have built meaningful, lasting connections with their peers and teachers. It’s been truly rewarding to watch them grow and achieve so much over the course of this year.
I also want to thank each of you for entrusting us with your children's education and well-being. Our school community is stronger because of the commitment of our dedicated families, teachers, and staff. The success we’ve seen this year wouldn’t have been possible without your ongoing support. Thank you for being such an essential part of Pine Creek Elementary.
As we look ahead to the summer break, I encourage all families to take time to relax, recharge, and enjoy special moments together. This is the perfect opportunity to make lasting memories and spend quality time with your loved ones.
We can’t wait to welcome you back in August!
Best,
Mrs. Rios
Technology with Mr. Johnson
Can you believe it? Summer is nearly here! We only have 1 more Technology class left! We have used a lot of cool technology, including several programming robots this year and I am looking forward to continuing using them more next year in new engaging ways!
Last week 3rd-5th graders programmed our Smart Cutebots! They used https://makecode.microbit.org/ and the Cutebot extension to create a program for the robot. First they had to choose what color they wanted for the front LEDs and what they wanted on the LED screen. Then they added movement code and some even added their own song creation! All this was then downloaded onto a Microbit. Then the Microbit was plugged into the Cutebot. When it was turned on, it ran their program!
K-2nd created their own programs via Scratch Jr. on our tablets! They could choose their background, characters (called Sprites), and add motion and audio programming. They all really loved recording their own sounds and voices to add to their program creations!
If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at johnsond@westottawa.net. Thanks! Have a great summer!
Mr. Johnson
PBIS Corner
We had our last Panther Packs for the school year and our theme was transitions. We talked about our 5th graders moving on to middle school and some students going to a different WO elementary school next year. We shared some of our favorite memories and what we are looking forward to for next school year. The students each received a small notebook to collect signatures from staff and friends. We had many adventures at Pine Creek this year and we are grateful for the time we had together!
PINE CREEK GARDEN
Summer time!! Our garden is open for visitors. Come for a picnic, play at the playground, and take some vegetables home or help with watering. This is an excellent opportunity to teach children about the planting process!
