Cougar Community,

The first half of the school year is coming to a close! We are so grateful to the LISD students, staff and community who've made this semester another great one. In this newsletter you'll find stories about how our students have been learning, connecting with one another, and giving back in these last few months. This time of year is full of festivities, celebrations and events, so be sure to check your child's campus calendar as well as the The Colony High School calendar for things happening in your area. We hope you all have a magical holiday break!

We are so grateful for all of the LISD community members who have participated in our Adopt-An-Angel Gift Program. If you didn't have a chance to adopt an angel this year, we still need donations! Earlier this month, in partnership with The Colony Chamber of Commerce, students in The Colony High School feeder pattern had the opportunity to attend a leadership luncheon at Andretti Indoor Karting & Games The Colony. Students were able to connect with leadership-minded peers and participate in group activities before breaking into panel sessions with local business partners, where they discussed how to be effective leaders in various career fields. At this month's The Colony Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Luncheon, several Cougars were celebrated! Teacher Kristen Cagle was honored for her commitment to the Cougar Crew spirit group. Student Ramy Triki was celebrated for his Academic Decathlon performance as well as his role as President of the Student Council. Lastly, Student Carter Clifton was recognized for his participation in both the award-winning TCHS theater program and Cougar Crew as well as his volunteer efforts. READ MORE

The Lakeview Leopards started a new holiday tradition this year with a Community Cookie Exchange. Thank you to the students, staff and families that participated!

#1 New York Times Bestselling Author Jennifer Nielsen visited 11 LISD campuses this fall, including Griffin Middle School. Nielsen is the author of “The Ascendance” series, the “Traitor’s Game” series, and historical novels including “Iceberg”, “A Night Divided”, “Words on Fire” and “Lines of Courage”. Her young adult fantasy and historical fiction novels are beloved by students across the world, including those here in LISD. READ MORE

Earlier this fall the Student Council leaders from six LISD schools, including Peters Colony Elementary, were awarded the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association (TEPSA) Student Leadership Award. To qualify for this award, Student Council leaders had to submit an application to TEPSA showing outstanding student leadership and their impact on their schools and communities through service projects. Morningside Elementary celebrated #FutureFridays throughout the month of November! During November students wore college t-shirts each Friday to celebrate continued education. Counselors were able to speak to students about the colleges they were sporting!

Campuses around the district hosted Veterans Day ceremonies to honor those who have served our country. At Memorial veterans were treated to breakfast and then enjoyed several performances from students.

We have some thankful Eagles and Eagle families! At this year's Thankful Eagle Lunch, families were treated to several student performances and enjoyed eating lunch with their students. SEE MORE PHOTOS

Camey Elementary teacher Kierstyn Warnell and students Victoria Servigna and Harper Pierce were recognized at The Colony Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Luncheon in October. Ms. Warnell was celebrated for modeling integrity and dignity. Victoria was recognized for her voracious reading and her keen intelligence. Harper was recognized for her passion for writing and her leadership on Camey's Student Council. READ MORE

BB Owen received one of eight campus grants awarded by LEF this fall. The eight grants totaled $36,560! Congratulations to BB Owen and thank you to the donors who make these grants possible. SEE MORE PHOTOS

• Jerry Krumwiede, TCHS |"Mr. Krumwiede is one of the best teachers that I have ever met. He goes over and beyond to help his students achieve their goals! Mr. Krumwiede has helped my son in so many ways! My son has matured and grown so much with Mr. Krumwiede's guidance."

• Deborah Garner, Lakeview Middle School | "Ms. Garner has been my son’s ELAR teacher for 2 years. She has encouraged him and helped him gain confidence in his writing abilities. She is patient and pushes student to reach their full potential. Lakeview is lucky to have her on our staff."
  
• Brandi Simione, Ethridge Elementary | "Mrs. Simione has been paramount to my daughter's development this school year. We're very lucky to have such a wonderful and supportive instructor at Ethridge."
