LAST NEWSLETTER OF THE YEAR!!!!!
Looking into the 2024-25 School Year!!!
Happy last Monday of the year!!!! This will be my last newsletter of the year...it's hard to believe how fast things have gone!!! As we coast into the last four days of school, finishing up our athletic events at state track, I know we are all ready to take a breath and enjoy all of the summer things that make June and July awesome! I'd like to give you some things and dates to look forward to so that you are ready for our next amazing school year!!!
This week our final exams week, (May 20-23), and school will end each day at 2:30 so that students can access teachers to make sure all assignments are in on Monday and Tuesday, and then students can complete the checkout process on Wednesday and Thursday to turn in chromebooks, textbooks, empty lockers, and pay outstanding fees. Sophomores and half of juniors will have checkout on Wednesday this week, and freshmen and the other half of juniors will checkout Thursday. Please help remind your students to bring in all items checked out to them to avoid fees for next year. Summer school begins on June 3rd at 8 AM.
Important dates that you will need to know next year are:
1. July 30th from 7:30 AM-12 PM: Freshmen and senior check-in. There will be no assigned parking spaces, so there will not be an early day for parking passes.
2. August 2nd from 7:30 AM - 12 PM: Sophomore and junior check-in.
3. August 5th from 10-12 AM: Freshman Orientation.
4. August 5th from 5:00-6:30 PM: Admin BBQ for incoming freshmen and their families in the courtyard.
5. August 7th is the first day of school.
6. August 9th is our Back to School Dance.
7. August 20th from 5:30-7:30 PM.
8. August 29th is our first home football game against Fruita.
Policy Changes for next year...
1. Badges will need to be visible at all times next year. Many of our students already keep them visible, but we will need to be able to see them visibly for all students and not have to ask students to pull them out of backpacks, purses, or wallets. They will need to be out and visible at all times. Students will be provided lanyards and sleeves, but if you find some over the summer that would be a clip for a pocket or a sturdier lanyard and sleeve, I would suggest picking those up. Students will be given one warning for not having the ID Badge, but students will either serve detention or time in ISS for not having their badges visible. For students who lose ID Badges, new ones can be printed in counseling, but a charge of $5 will go on their student fees.
2. Our bell schedule will be changing so that our teachers can see students more times each week. We will be following the schedule that GJHS and FMHS are on which means that students will have all 8 classes on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays, but on Wednesdays, students will attend classes 1,3,5,7 and advisory, and on Thursdays, students will attend classes 2, 4, 6, 8 and advisory.
Monday: All Periods 1-8. Class starts at 8 AM, early release at 2:50 PM.
Tuesday: All Periods 1-8. Class starts at 8 AM, release at 3:15 PM.
Wednesday: Blocks 1, 3, 5, 7 plus Advisory. Class starts at 8 AM, release at 3:15 PM.
Thursday: Blocks 2, 4, 6, 8 plus Advisory. Class starts at 8 AM, release at 3:15 PM.
Friday: All periods 1-8. Class starts at 8 AM, release at 3:15 PM.
3. NO CELL PHONES, AIR PODS, or SMART WATCHES DURING CLASS TIME, BELL TO BELL!!! In conjunction with all of the high schools in the valley, cell phones, air pods, and smart watches will not be allowed during class time, which means bell to bell. All teachers will have safe spaces available for students to store technology, or students will be able to keep technology out of sight during class times. If a student needs to leave the classroom during class time, cell phones will need to remain in the safe spot in the classroom. Cell phones will not be allowed in restrooms or locker rooms as a way to ensure privacy, respect, and the security of all individuals within these spaces. Students who try to use technology during class time will be asked to turn in their technological devices to the teacher, who will then take them to the office. For the first offense, students may pick up their technology at the end of the day. For offenses after that, parents will need to come to pick up the technology at the end of the day. Repeated violations may involve parental meetings and other appropriate disciplinary actions. The implementation of this policy is driven by our commitment in reinforcing the importance of adhering to this policy with your student. By working together, we can create an environment that nurtures focused learning, social, interaction, and overall personal development.
As we navigate the ever-evolving landscape of education, we find it imperative to establish guidelines such as these to foster an optimal learning environment for our students. We believe that these changes will have positive impacts on school safety and learning, and we are committed to helping our students be as focused and successful as they can possibly be.
As you embark on summer vacation, I want to say thank you for allowing me to serve as the principal of Central High School, and thank you for entrusting your most prized possessions with us each and every day. We are privileged to be able to touch the future each and every day. Until the first newsletter of next year, have a wonderful summer!!!
Sincerely,
Tracy Arledge
