A Message From Our Principal
Hello Meridian Academy Community,
As we approach the holidays it is a great time to think of our school community members who are less fortunate. One simple way to help in this area is to continually help your student remember our Behavior Expectation of "Be Kind". Meridian Academy is the 'best school in Idaho' because of how we treat each other, and this work starts (and can be reinforced) at home. What a great and simple way to make MA a better place! We have our annual Thanksgiving Pancake Breakfast coming up next Friday 11/22, which is a chance for your student to enjoy the company of their friends while feasting before the Thanksgiving Holiday. As a school we are now working on "Be Safe" as an expectation and it goes without saying that we want our students to demonstrate this throughout the upcoming weeks, including the holiday breaks to come. As we continually work to improve how we do things at Meridian Academy, your feedback is invaluable. Please take a few minutes (about 5) to complete the Community Survey included just below. This will help our team make decisions that best meet the needs of you and your student(s).
Thank you for all of your support and have a great holiday season,
Principal Eian and the Meridian Academy Team
Community Survey
While we have an awesome school with fantastic students and staff, we are always looking for ways to improve. If you are a student or the Parent/Caregiver of a Meridian Academy student, please take a moment to complete the survey below to give us some valuable information as we identify areas for improvement. Your answers are confidential and will only be used to help us make Meridian Academy even better. Thank you in advance for your responses!
Fred Meyer's Rewards Program
Fred Meyer's has a rewards program (similar to the one Albertson's had in the past) to assist non-profit organizations to gain cash rewards. We are enrolled in the program and would love your support when shopping at Fred Meyer stores.
Please visit the web page: www.fredmeyer.com/communityrewards and use the NPO number 87883 to link your Fred Meyer rewards card to Meridian Academy.
You do not lose any points gained on your rewards card, it simply tracks the amount of use by persons who have attached Meridian Academy to their cards and then sends donations earned based on use to Meridian Academy each quarter! It is a win-win for everyone!
Thanks for your support!

Quarter 2 Disposition
As we transition from Quarter 1 into Quarter 2, we will begin focusing on a new disposition. Last month, our focus was on “Being Kind”. Meridian Academy has established an excellent reputation of our students being kind and we believe our focus on this disposition has contributed to this success. Our Quarter 2 Disposition is “Be Safe”. Safety is a huge concern for parents and students and our focus on this disposition will shine a light on the importance of "Being Safe" in our schools.
Literary Games!!!
The Second Annual West Ada Literary Games begins on November 1st! This is a fun way to encourage students to branch out and read a wider variety of topics and books! The Literary (Lit) Games is a West Ada Reading Challenge program for all secondary school students and all WASD staff. It's a fun way to challenge yourself in reading books in different categories and winning prizes. The challenge runs from November 1st through April 1st. You can win prizes at different tiers: 30 books (GOLD), 20 books (SILVER), and 10 books (BRONZE)! Choose to read 10, 20, or 30 books between now and April 1st to win some cool prizes! For those of you who participated last year, there are some different prize options available! Please see Chenin for any questions you may have or if you would like her to print off a reading journal for you to track your reading progress! This challenge is open to secondary students and all WASD staff! Click the link below for more information.
Letter From Senator Crapo
Recently, one of Meridian Academy’s students received an e-mail from Senator Mike Crapo. Dakota wrote Senator Crapo in regards to the wildfire smoke recently affecting air quality in our area. Dakota is concerned about this issue and offered his solutions to help combat the problem in our community. Shortly after sending out his letter to Senator Crapo, Dakota received a lengthy response. His letter and the response from Senator Crapo is on display in the “Student Work” hallway display outside of David’s room so take a look when you have a chance. Just one more way Meridian Academy students are making their mark in our community! Great job, Dakota!
Meridian Academy Dress Code
As we make our way to the halfway point of the school year, it seems like a good time for a friendly reminder of the Meridian Academy Dress Code. Please see your Mentor for any questions or comments.
· Clothing must cover the body from the chest to below the buttocks. This includes all private and intimate parts of the body.
· All tops must cover the stomach, back, chest, and torso. Shirts that expose the shoulders must have a strap or fabric that goes over both shoulders and adheres to the other provisions of this dress code.
· The fabric covering all private parts must not be see-through.
· Pants/bottoms with rips, tears, or mesh are acceptable but shall not reveal or expose a private/intimate part of the body nor cause a safety concern (e.g., a tripping hazard because the hem of the pant leg drags on the floor).
· Hats or head coverings are permissible at the middle and high school levels. Head coverings may not cover the ears with the exception of those related to medical or religious exemptions. Hats or head coverings are prohibited at the elementary level with the exception of those related to medical or religious exemptions.
· Clothing must be suitable for all scheduled classroom activities, including physical education, science labs, career-technical, and other activities where unique hazards exist. Specialized courses may require specialized attire, such as uniforms, safety gear, footwear or accessories.
· No clothing or accessories may depict prejudice, hatred, alcohol, drugs, tobacco, pornography, or profanity, or denote gang involvement, violence, or illegal activities.
· Secondary students must wear their school-issued student ID/Access Cards and ensure that they are visible at all times.
· Personal accessories must not distract from the school and/or learning environment and not pose a safety hazard to self and/or others.
Mentor Spotlight - Catherine
This month’s Mentor Spotlight will focus on, Catherine, one of our new Social Studies teachers. Catherine grew up in the hot sun of Hawaii and since moving to Idaho has appreciated winters and watching the snow fall from her warm home. When discussing World Geography in Catherine’s class, you are likely to get some first hand information because she has probably visited the country being discussed. The only continent she hasn’t been to is Antarctica and her favorite is Europe. If she could invite one historical figure to lunch it would be either Frida Kahlo or Georgia O’Keefe because both of these women saw the world differently than most people and were able to express their reality in such a way that those observing their art can feel the joy, the beauty, and the pain of the human experience all wrapped up into a painting. When Catherine was in fifth grade, she slipped and fell on stage during her class’ performance of The Nutcracker. Catherine felt embarrassed and started crying after a mean girl told her she ruined the whole performance. No worries, Catherine! We are so happy you are here with us now!
