This Is How We Lakeview
July 2023 Edition: Volume 4

Latest Updates
We are officially 75% done with the school year, which is hard to believe. Remember that due to Teacher Record Day on Monday, students are out of school on Monday and will return on Tuesday to start Quarter 4.
As we start Quarter 4, please encourage your student(s) to check Infinite Campus for their current Quarter 4 schedule. We will have physical copies of schedules available to students in their first-period class on Tuesday, but students should also check Infinite Campus so they are aware of their schedule.
For our 7th-grade students and families, course requests for next school year closed this past Monday. If you have any questions about scheduling or if you are still wanting to make requests or changes, please reach out to me (ben_baptist@plsd.us).

Important Updates
February Students of the Month
Congratulations to our February Students of the Month! Each month at Lakeview, teachers nominate the students who are going above and beyond what is expected of them. These students show respect for themselves, others, and learning through Building Positive Relationships, Personal Discipline, and Being Better Today Than Yesterday!
Congratulations to our February recipients: Donya Alhyassa, Lauren Gisi, Sha'Nya Graham, Djetssy Joseph Daure, Atiya Kilili, Audrey Kilpatrick, Rugved Raskar, and Carter Schone.
Guest Speaker for 8th Graders
The last few weeks, many of our 8th-grade students finished reading the novel Night in their ELA class. We are fortunate to have a guest speaker lined up for this coming Tuesday, the 11th, to speak with our 8th-grade students about the Holocaust. Debbi Sugarman is the daughter of Morris Dach, an Auschwitz survivor. Ms. Sugarman speaks about her father's experiences, survival, and legacy. We are excited to provide this opportunity to our 8th-graders to supplement the reading of Night and the discussions they had around the text.
PoPP: Parents on Positivity Patrol
Parents on Positivity Patrol (PoPP) is a volunteer program that brings more caring adults into our schools to support students and staff. Parent volunteers play a vital role in education—not only as valuable resources for teachers but also as role models who show students that school is important and worth their time and effort.
Through PoPP, parents have the opportunity to actively engage in the schools their children attend, fostering a strong sense of community. By spreading encouragement and building positive relationships, PoPP volunteers help create a welcoming and supportive environment for all.
Join PoPP today and be a catalyst for change. Together, we’ll shape a brighter future—one uplifting interaction at a time.

Chromebook Reminder
Recently, our staff has noticed an increased number of students coming to school with uncharged Chromebooks. Please remind your student(s) to charge their Chromebook nightly so they are ready to go the following morning!
Ramadan
This year, Ramadan will last from Friday, February 28th through Saturday, March 29th. During this time many of our students and families may be participating in multiple ways including fasting, praying, and gathering with family and community outside of school.
In the building, we have taken a few steps to support students who want to participate in Ramadan through fasting and prayer.
Students who are fasting and do not want to stay in the Cafeteria while their peers are eating may spend their lunch period in a separate location.
Students also will have access to a quiet space if they wish to gather to pray during the mid-day prayer.
If you have questions about Ramadan or how we are supporting our students during Ramadan, please feel free to reach out.
