The Spencer Scoop
May 10, 2024
THANK YOU!
On behalf of the staff here at Spencer, I would like to thank the PTO and parents/guardians/grandparents who donated items for Teacher Appreciation Week. THANK YOU for the food, the fun treats, and for the appreciation for all that the staff does on a daily basis. Your kindness did not go unnoticed.
Change of Transportation Calls
We are seeing an increase in phone calls at the end of the day with a change in your student's dismissal plan. Every call we have to make into your child's classroom is an interruption for the entire class. This disrupts their learning time and their teacher’s valuable instruction time. Please send a note in with your student in the morning if there is a change in their after school transportation or contact the office by 2:45 PM (preferably before lunch so we can pass a note to your child's teacher on their way past the office). This will eliminate the calls into the classroom and the disruption of class instruction. Please do not contact your child's teacher directly for any changes in their end of the day dismissal plans. Messages sent via email, Remind, See Saw, etc. are often not able to be checked throughout the day. In addition, this information would not be accessible to a guest teacher. Thank you for your cooperation and support.
Welcome to Spencer, Wylie!
Welcome Wylie to the BAS Pack of Dogs!! Wylie has been working hard in therapy dog training and has started joining his Spencer family a few times a week. He is the sweetest boy and we are so excited to have him here at Spencer! If you would like to help Mrs. Gunn get Wylie acclimated and prepared for school at Spencer, an Amazon Wish List is linked below with some things he could use!

Just In Case Clothes
REMINDER!
THANK YOU to those of you who are packing a change of "just in case clothes" in your child's backpack every day. Now that the weather is changing, please make sure that the clothes you pack are weather appropriate. This is for ALL students, grades JK-4th, you never know when your student may have a nosebleed, or lose a tooth, or spill food on their shirt, or find a mud puddle outside, or have a bathroom accident. We have already had to contact quite a few families to come up with a change of clothing. If your student keeps a change of clothes in their backpack, then we can take care of it here, otherwise we will need you to bring up a change of clothing. Thank you for your cooperation.

Auction: Our annual auction will be held entirely online this year and will go live TONIGHT at 5pm. Shopping will be open until 9pm on Wednesday, May 15th. All items are now available for viewing. Sign up for an account now so that you are ready to get your bids in! You can set up a "watch" on items you want to keep an eye on and set up notifications so you never miss out when someone outbids you! This is our second large fundraiser of the year. Help us make it a huge success AND take home some amazing items while you're at it! You may share this link with family and friends, but we will NOT ship items! Winning bidders MUST pay in advance and pick their items up during the Carnival (or make arrangements in advance with the PTO).

Carnival: Our annual Family Carnival will be held next Friday, May 17th, from 5-8pm. All students will require a wristband to play games - if you would like to avoid the line on Friday, you can pre-order your tickets with the Wristband Order form in the packet below. We have a new game/inflatable vendor, a DUNK TANK (full of your Spencer Favorites!), food trucks, cotton candy, popcorn, and so much more! It's going to be a FANTASTIC event, BUT we need volunteers! This is our largest event of the year - we expect around 500 people to attend. If we do not have people at each station, those stations will be closed until volunteers are there. Give us 90 minutes of your time to make this event amazing for the kids! Sign up for a slot here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0C48A4A729A6FB6-48948610-spencer#/
Treat Walk: Long standing tradition has us holding a Treat Walk during the Carnival again this year! If you are interested in making a donation for that, the sign-up is here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0C48A4A729A6FB6-48948586-treat#/

- Target Gift Card ($100 Value)
During their lunch hours May 14, 15, and 16th, we will be selling raffle tickets for $0.50 each. Students will be able to select which prize to take their chances on, unless you specify where they should go. Send the Fish Bowl Raffle form in the packet back with your student starting May 14th! (If you have already sent money, we will have tickets ready for your student(s) during their lunch hours). We will draw winners on Friday, May 17th near the end of the day and announce it to students. Prizes can be picked up during the Carnival Friday, May 17th.

Remember Your Family Pass
Please remember to bring your Family Pass with you EVERY day you come to pick up your student! . We frequently have substitute teachers that will not recognize you and will send you to the office to get a family pass card before releasing your child to you. This is for safety and security reasons and we appreciate your cooperation.
Spencer Parent Resource Guide
This Spencer Parent Resource Guide is filled with important information and answers to most (if not all) the questions you may have.
Volunteer Form
All parent volunteers must undergo a background check in order to work with Brighton Area Schools students. ONLINE Volunteer Form
Brighton Area Schools reserves the right to "approve" or "deny" any volunteer service upon review of the background check returned. The determination will be based upon individual fitness to have responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of children. Providing false information is grounds for immediate volunteer denial.
Events Around the District
Brighton Soccer Youth Night
Brighton Varsity Softball
Youth Night is back for Varsity Softball!
Cheer on the team as they take on rival Howell on May 15th (two games, 4 & 6PM). There will be some fun give-a-ways, you can run the bases between games, and get a chance to meet the players and coaches. Kids of all ages are welcome to join in the fun. Please invite your friends and neighbors too. Admission is free.
BAS Pack of Dogs
The BAS Pack of Dogs are excited to announce our inaugural Pack Parade! We will be hosting a 1 mile walk that will start at the Mill Pond and end at BHS with food trucks, yard games, and raffle baskets. Participants in the walk can use the link and select “become a fundraiser” to sign up and create a fundraising team/page that can be shared on your social media. This way you can tell your family and friends about the amazing pups you’re pledging to walk for, and they can also help contribute to your page. There will be prizes for the top fundraising teams from each Brighton School! We hope to see everyone there!
Any questions or Pack Parade sponsorship inquiries please reach out to Kaitlyn Lipinski or Rachaelle Baxter
