The Owl Post
Summer 2024
Happy Summer Vernon Owls!
Our Summer Edition has lots of free activities & resources.
Remember that the very best thing you can do to keep students' brains growing and learning is to encourage them to read. Books, magazines, cereal boxes, signs, comics, anything they are interested in, let them read to you, read to them, read together. Just 15-20 minutes a day can significantly improve a student's vocabulary at any age.
Our Librarian Ms. Wilkins put together a great Summer Reading flier for ideas!

School Supply News-
As the school year comes to an end, your Vernon PTA is already planning for the next school year. We have an exciting change that we hope will make things easier for both staff and families alike.
Currently, teachers create school supply lists for families to purchase and bring to school on the first day. These supplies are crucial for our students' learning throughout the year. While buying these supplies can be enjoyable for some, it can also be just another task or even a hardship depending on each family's circumstances.
To simplify this process, the Vernon PTA will be collecting supply lists from teachers and will bulk purchase all necessary school supplies for each student. This means that families will only need to send their students to school with a backpack and a water bottle.
To make this possible, we are asking families who are able to contribute funds towards the purchasing of these supplies. The estimated cost will be around $35 per student. The exact amount and details on how to pay for school supplies will be included in the school welcome packet sent out late in the summer.
All funds collected will be used solely to purchase the supplies that teachers specify for their classes. This approach ensures that teachers have a full set of supplies in their classrooms before the school year starts and can request additional supplies from the PTA if needed. Additionally, it ensures that the supplies students use in class are consistent in quality and function.
We believe this change will help alleviate some of the back-to-school stress for families and allow our teachers to start the year fully prepared.
Thank you for your support and cooperation. We look forward to a fantastic school year ahead!
Online Access to Report Cards
We want to remind families of our shift to an online process for accessing report cards. Our goal is to offer families continuous access to report cards and grading information through the online platform of Parentvue.
This change aims to enhance accessibility and streamline the information-sharing process. For those who prefer a traditional paper copy, please feel free to inform us via email, and we will gladly print a copy for you.
To get started with Parentvue, we have provided a link to the PPS Parentvue web page and resources. This page includes information on navigating the website and details about the available app for those interested.
Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
