Our Lady of Mercy
NEWSLETTER | TERM 3 | WEEK 9 | 14 SEPTEMBER 2022
The Year 1 students travelled back in time to The Kalamunda History Village, where they learnt about how people lived in the past. They engaged in many exciting activities such as making peg dolls, playing with olden day toys, completing chores at home, experiencing what school life was like and exploring ways people communicated. We had a blast learning about the past!
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers
Kindy Playdates
Today we held our second Kindy playdate for families enrolling children into our school community in 2023. It was wonderful to see parents and caregivers connect with one another and for children to meet those who may be in their class next year. Thank you to our amazing P&F for setting up morning tea and for being a visible and engaging presence to new families. Tania, who was the P&F representative at this play session. spoke of how her involvement in the P&F has not only provided her with an opportunity to be involved in the life of her children’s school, but has also fostered connections with others that have grown into certain lifelong friendships. This is a wonderful example of our school being a place of connection and belonging.
P&F Colour Run
On the last day of school the P&F are running a Colour Run event. Last year we raised a few thousand dollars which went towards resources for teaching and learning. This year we are aiming to raise money for a Ninja playground for all children to enjoy. We need your help with this fundraiser. Please ask family and friends to sponsor our Colour Run event. Details of how to donate money can be found further in this newsletter. The P&F greatly appreciates your support.
'Draw Near' Donations
Thank you for the generous food donations for the ‘Draw Near’ asylum and refugee project. We had two car loads full of bagged food items from our school and personal items from our parish community to deliver to the Migrant and Refugee Centre in Perth. Our staff received professional development from the leader of this project, Deacon Greg, who reminded us that Jesus’ parents were refugees, and that scripture tells us to care for the refugee. The parable of the Good Samaritan is an example of reaching out to assist someone who may not be of the same culture or language group, but who has a need and in whom we can encounter God.
We have a very busy last six days of term with many events having to be allocated to the last week of school due to poor weather and an unexpected public holiday. By the time the school holidays arrive, I know our school community will be well deserving of a good school holiday break.
God bless you all.
