District 30's full-day 2025-26 kindergarten Program will be held at both Willowbrook and Wescott Schools. Kindergarten intake for the 2025-26 school year will take place online beginning on Monday, February 3 at 9:00 a.m.

To be eligible for kindergarten, your child must have been born on or before September 1, 2020, as evidenced by an official birth certificate or passport. Proof of residency in District 30 is also required, as well as the filling out of an affidavit form.

The 2025-26 District 30 Kid Connection Preschool will be held at Willowbrook School only. The preschool program is days a week for 2.5 hours a day and follows the District 30 school calendar.

Three-year-old students attend the morning class and the 4-year-old students attend in the afternoon. Preschool intake for the 2025-26 school year will take place online beginning on Monday, February 3 at 9:00 a.m.

Following the intake process, the enrollment phase will begin May 1 and further details will be shared here and on our website at district30.org.

The block schedule and course offerings for the 2025 Summer School program have been posted to the website. Please visit district30.org/summer-school and scroll down to the “Courses” tab. We recommend previewing these courses with your students ahead of time to prepare for registration.

Fourth- and 5th-grade students from Wescott and Willowbrook showcased all they have learned on their instruments this week in a beautiful concert at Maple. We are so proud of their accomplishments!

Intramural Sports Club is a place where 4th and 5th-graders will learn new sports and games that we might not get a chance to play in PE. They will also engage in small sided game play while working as a team. Dates are :

• 4th grade - Wednesday session, February 5- April 9

• 5th grade - Tuesday session, February 4-April 1

Erin’s Law, House Bill 6193 was signed by Governor Pat Quinn on January 24, 2013. This law requires schools to implement an age-appropriate sexual assault and abuse awareness and prevention curriculum for grades Pre-K through 12. District 30 has purchased the “Be Seen and Be Heard 2.0” video program from Victor Pacini, a survivor of sexual abuse, an author, songwriter, singer, and motivational speaker. Mr. Pacini has assisted our schools in implementing this mandate for the past 10 years.

Mr. Pacini’s program is developmentally appropriate, interactive, and aligned with learning standards. The focus of his presentation is to teach children basic skills to keep them safe from dangerous or abusive situations. Parents may wish to view an overview of the program at Childhood Victories.

The Wescott presentation date will be Thursday, February 6, for all grades.

Requests to opt out: If you prefer that your child opt-out of this prevention education session, please email your child’s classroom teacher.

With the winter weather more students are driven to and from school, thus causing more traffic congestion before and after school. Students may only be dropped off or picked up in front of the school building along the curb of the circular drive. If students are dropped off on a side street across from Wescott, they must cross with the crossing guard.

Students should arrive at school no earlier than 8:30 a.m. There is no playground supervision until that time. Students who walk to school should cross with the crossing guard at Techny and Western, Brentwood and Western, Dehne and Western, or Farnsworth and Western Avenues.

Please do not cross at any other intersection during pick up and drop off.

Cars may not be parked in the circle drive or parking spaces before, during or after drop off or pick up times: 8:00-9:00 a.m. and 3:00-3:40 p.m.

• During the busy drop off/pick up times, all traffic must enter the drive from the north. No left turns or traffic from the east is allowed into the circle drive during the drop off and pick up times. Cars must wait in one line alongside Wescott Park to enter the drive.
• The crosswalk must be left open at all times; cars should wait behind the intersection to enter the circle drive.
• The traffic flow to use to enter the line of cars waiting on Western Avenue is to take Fieldwood to Farnsworth to Western. PLEASE DO NOT CUT INTO THE TRAFFIC LINE FROM OTHER STREETS.
• Cars should not make U-turns in the middle of the street or turn around in resident's driveways.
• No traffic is allowed in the parking lot during drop off and pick up times.

This month in our RULER program, we are learning about emotional regulation and personal values through the best self and meta-moment.

• Our best self is our personal ideal and desired reputation.
• The meta-moment is a tool to pause during emotional situations and adjust to respond as one’s best self.

For example, during difficult morning routines, we might pause to recognize the feeling of frustration and consider how our best self would respond. The meta-moment aims to shift from automatic, unhelpful reactions to strategic, helpful responses.

• The meta-moment consists of four steps:

1. Sense: Notice a change in your body or mind.

2. Pause: Wait to respond. Breathe to think more clearly.

3. See your Best Self: Imagine your best self in the situation.

4. Strategize and Act: Think of a strategy and try it out.

• Strategies we can use include walking away, finding an adult, considering the other person's perspective, using positive self-talk, and reframing a situation.

• Ask your child to explain what the meta-moment is.

• Discuss with your child a time when they felt an intense emotion. What change did they notice in their body or mind? Did they pause, regulate, and imagine their best self? What strategy did they use?

Thank you to all families who expressed interest in participating in this year’s Multicultural Night! This event has always been a celebration of our vibrant community, and it relies heavily on widespread participation to make it a success.

Given the scale of the event and the number of attendees we’ve had in past years, we want to ensure it’s an engaging and enriching experience for everyone. To do so, we’ve made the difficult decision to postpone the event to 2026.

We imagine this to be a lasting, visual celebration of our amazing Wescott community and can't wait for you to be a part of it!

How you can contribute:

• Please, submit your translation of our motto – "One big family" by clicking the button below. We ask that you follow the same format: first word is uppercase, followed by lowercase words (unless your language has a different set of grammatical rules for this statement).

Celebrate your child’s birthday by ordering Happy Birthday signs for your lawn! The cost is $25 for a lawn full of signs (approximately 15 signs). Parents are responsible for putting the signs into their lawn. Deadline to sign-up is February 15. Please direct any questions to shal077@gmail.com.

Wescott has a “no food or drink” birthday celebration practice. We want our students to know other ways to celebrate birthdays besides treats.

If you want your child to bring something in for their birthday, we encourage you to donate a book to our library through the PTO Birthday Book Club. You can also send school supplies such as pencils, erasers, stickers, bookmarks, etc.

Please do not send paper birthday invitations to school. The use of electronic invitations through our PTO directory is suggested.

Please call the front office to let us know of any changes in pick up practices for your student. As a reminder the tot lot is not a part of Wescott grounds and is not supervised during arrival and dismissal times.

In our Wescott and District 30 community, we value open communication and community collaboration. We have best success when partnering with parents on student concerns.

We are noticing a concerning trend of inappropriate language use among our students. Much of this language appears to be influenced by content on social media platforms, particularly TikTok. We know that our community, parents and faculty, believe that maintaining a respectful and positive school environment is crucial for all children's well-being and academic success.

While we understand the popularity of these platforms among young people, it's important to guide our children in using appropriate language, regardless of what they may encounter online. We kindly ask for your support in reinforcing appropriate language use at home. Please:

1. Discuss with your child the importance of using respectful words and the potential impact of inappropriate language on others.

2. Monitor your child's social media use, particularly on platforms like TikTok.

3. Encourage critical thinking about the content they consume online and how it might influence their behavior.

Any time a student feels unsafe, any adult in their school can help!

But sometimes, students or parents wish to reach out for help in a different way or after school hours. Safe2Help Illinois offers students a safe way to share information 24/7 that might help prevent any threat to school safety, including bullying, self-harm or other serious concerns.

The goal of this program is to get students to “seek help before harm;" it is not intended to suspend, expel, or punish. Safe2Help Illinois also offers a Mental Health Toolkit that provides resources for parents and educators reinforce the components of this program.
