MOYNIHAN SHINES AT THE MASS WORKFORCE SUMMIT
Senior EMMA MOYNIHAN has been a dedicated participant in the ArtWorks program for the past four years. Throughout her time with ArtWorks, Emma has explored a wide range of artistic mediums (including painting, drawing, pottery, and stained glass), gaining both creative skills and real-world experience in the creative economy. Emma also took part in the program’s paid placement opportunities, helping to further her professional growth.
On April 3, 2025, Emma was invited to speak at the Mass Workforce Association Annual Summit Meeting at Ocean Edge Resort. In front of an audience of 50 professionals from across Massachusetts, Emma shared her journey and personal insights on her four-year involvement with ArtWorks. During the panel, Emma reflected on the impact of the program on her artistic development and career goals, and engaged in a Q&A session with attendees.
Congratulations, Emma!

TEAM-BUILDING ACTIVITIES WITH PEER LEADERS
SMHS PEER LEADERS were excited to join advisories recently to lead a fun and meaningful Four Corners activities to build stronger relationships between advisory students and their Peer Leaders. During the activity, Peer Leaders guided small groups through a rotation of team-building activities. It was a great opportunity for connection, conversation, and community building!
UNDER PRESSURE:
STUDENTS EXPERIMENT WITH GAS LAWS & PHASE CHANGES
Why do hot air balloons rise? Can you boil water at room temperature? Did the Patriots actually deflate their footballs during Deflategate or was it Gay-Lussac's Gas Law at work? Why does carbon dioxide change directly from a solid to a gas at room temperature?
SMHS CHEMISTRY STUDENTS demonstrated deeper learning by investigating these questions using Gas Laws, The Unusual Properties of Water and Changes of Phase in Matter and applied their knowledge to real-life scenarios. Student demonstrations included blowing up shaving cream in a vacuum pump, showing that water can defy gravity in an inverted bottle, and using air pressure to force a hard boiled egg into a small mouthed flask.

AP COMPUTER SCIENCE STUDENTS
VISIT ENGINEERING FIRM
Students in our AP COMPUTER SCIENCE PRINCIPLES class had a chance to visit Celerity Embedded Design Services in Pocasset, where a small team of engineers designs and builds prototypes of printed circuitry for clients around the world. Celerity Embedded Design Services is one of many small engineering firms that help companies large and small reach their technological goals. Sandwich Middle High School is grateful for allowing our students to visit and see career options available in Engineering and Computer Science.

SALAMANDER EGG MASSES IN THE VERNAL POOL!
Spring is here, and with it comes exciting activity in the SMHS VERNAL POOL right here on campus! Several large salamander egg masses can be seen in the water, a clear sign that this is the peak time of year for amphibian reproduction. Science classes have been out observing vernal pool activity and suspect there may also be frog egg masses present. It's a fascinating glimpse into the seasonal rhythms of our local ecosystem, so be sure to take a moment to check it out if you're nearby!
