Dear parents,
The new school construction is going on per schedule. Underground pipes and wiring are complete. Framing for the foundation is ongoing and we are expecting concrete to be poured this month. At this pace, it is expected that the building will be ready before the next academic year.
The 2022-2023 academic year is in full swing. Horizon Leadership Academy’s students have taken the MAP test and will be sitting for the midterms next week. HLA students’ scored better than the national scores in all subjects in MAP. 8th-grade students have been unusually busy as they prepare for the upcoming PSAT. You will soon receive the midterm exam schedule from the Academic Coordinator.
To raise our academic bar, the school is looking into offering STAAR to the students in MAY. In this regard, we are in touch with the relevant department at TEA. As soon as some technicalities are completed we will inform you. The school will offer the exams as a private school. We will apply for the County-District-Campus (CDC) number.
In our continued effort to provide support to our students, HLA has hired a counselor. She has agreed to volunteer her services for the students. She has already started working with the students. Please feel free to call her if you wish her to support your child.
School PTO is in action. Members are in place and the second meeting is scheduled for October 3 rd. Nazli Cizmeci is the president. Please join me in welcoming her to this post.
The school will celebrate Mawlid Kandili on Thursday, October 6th. It will be a NO UNIFORM DAY. Please ask the children to dress up in order to celebrate the great occasion.
The HLA staff and administration would like to invite all our parents to have breakfast with us on October 14th. Further details and the invite will be sent out in the near future. We look forward to seeing all of you.
The annual Gala is scheduled for October 15th. Please join us to support and make this event successful.
Finally, please make sure that your children read for 30 minutes every day. This will enhance their comprehension, increase vocabulary and improve fluency.
