For the Georgia Milestone EOC Assessment

A LETTER TO STUDENTS AND PARENTS

Students and Parents,

If you are reading this, you are taking a course that requires a Georgia Milestones End of Course assessment (formerly known as End of Course Test or EOCT). This assessment is required by the state of Georgia. For the FY14-15 school year, public school students enrolled in these courses are required to take the EOC assessments to meet the graduation requirement but the grade will NOT count as part of students’ final GAVS course average. All public school students enrolled in the Georgia Milestone EOC courses are required to take a GAVS final exam in addition to the EOC assessments. Homeschooled students are only required to take the GAVS final exam. The final exam will count 20% of students’ final course average. If homeschooled students enroll in a public school after taking the course with GAVS, the school will provide the parents/students with EOC assessment graduation requirements for previously taken courses.

Facilitators of public school students should be registering their students to take the Milestone Assessments. Public school students will take an end-of-course assessment when enrolled in the block (AB) or second semester (B) of following courses:

Language Arts

Ninth Grade Literature and Composition (B or AB)
American Literature and Composition (B or AB)

Mathematics

Coordinate Algebra

CCGPS Coordinate Algebra (B or AB)
Accelerated CCGPS Coordinate Algebra/Analytic Geometry A (B or AB)

Analytic Geometry

CCGPS Analytic Geometry (B or AB)
Accelerated CCGPS Analytic Geometry B/Advanced Algebra (B or AB)

Science

Physical Science
Biology

Social Studies

United States History
Economics/Business/Free Enterprise

Note: Middle school students who are enrolled in one or more of these courses (EOC) willalso take the end-of-course measure. The end-of-course measures are administered at the completion of the course, regardless of the grade level. These measures serve as the final exam for the course, and contribute 20% to the student’s final course grade.

Who Takes the Georgia Milestone EOC?

Upon completion of the 2nd semester (B or AB course) of this course, public school students are required to complete a Georgia Milestone End of Course assessment. Public school students should contact their facilitator to determine when their school’s next Georgia Milestone EOC assessment administration date will be held. If public school students enrolled in a Georgia Milestone EOC course have not taken the Georgia Milestone EOC assessment or the facilitator has not reported the score to GaVS, the pre-final course average will not be released. GaVS only releases final course grades. Private, home school, and out of state students will be expected to take a final exam in place of the Georgia Milestone EOC assessment.
