As we move into summer break, there are multiple professional development opportunities available across the state, all focused on science and technology. Please check out the information below and consider attending one that fits your schedule and priorities.

Explore all the new maker materials we have to offer, as well as tried and true favorites, in a relaxed, open-house format. The Science and Engineering for Michigan Collaborative is hosting a ML-PBL professional learning opportunity August 6th - 8th in Lansing. They are looking for teams of 4 from districts, including any appropriate curriculum or instructional support people). This is a great opportunity for the team to dig deeper into models that support science. More information can be found on this FLYER. Please express interest HERE by June 15th.
Statewide K-5 science teacher training to ensure that elementary students have access to high-quality science. This includes 1-day workshops for 18 different units. Applications to participate in grade-level workshops are due by June 24th and sessions are limited to 20 participants each. Applicants will be notified shortly after July 10, 2024, if they have been accepted and will receive final registration instructions. Apply HERE today!
Ready to take your science teaching to the next level? The Calhoun (MI) Intermediate School District (Marshall, MI) will be hosting in-person Level Up! 3D Assessment two-day workshops in June. Sessions are FREE to all Michigan educators and include SCECHs. Work with colleagues and experts to unpack performance expectations and write 3D formative assessment tasks for your students. New this year is a bonus assessment writing workshop day on June 28, where all past and current Level Up! participants will develop and write assessment questions. Learn more HERE.

The Saginaw ISD is offering a FREE, engaging, hands-on Apple iPad workshop, hosted by Apple.. There’s no need to be an Apple district to participate; these workshops focus on effectively using iPads in the classroom. Attend one or both sessions to explore different aspects of integrating iPads into your teaching toolkit. Workshop Dates: July 16 and 17 (9:00 am - 2:30 pm). SCECHs offered! Register here.
Registration is now open for the three Summer Virtual NGSX cohorts funded by the Science and Engineering Collaborative via the MiSTEM Network Council grant. This program focuses on the scientific-engineering practices of developing and using models, engaging in argumentation, and constructing explanations, and will allow K-12 teachers to engage as adult learners with science content and classroom cases as well as reflect on their own classrooms. Participants also receive SCECHs and a $300 stipend for completing the cohort work. Multiple cohorts available July - September. Share THIS PDF file with anyone who may be interested in attending.
This is a fantastic opportunity to bring your creative ideas to life! Grants can be used for a variety of purposes, such as purchasing new teaching materials, developing unique learning experiences, or piloting new classroom technology. MSTA will be awarding four grants of $1,000 each to support innovative science education projects created by current MSTA members. Applications must be submitted by August 15, 2024. College Board has announced the revised course and exam descriptions (CEDs) for all four AP Physics courses are available for the 2024-25 school year. What to do:
Confirm that your AP Physics teachers are aware of the revisions for the 2024-25 school year.
Confirm that your AP Physics teachers have downloaded their revised CEDs and will be using them to plan for the 2024-25 school year.
Ensure your AP Physics teachers are aware that they’ll need to reauthorize their courses for 2024-25 via the Course Audit by January 31, 2025.
