Kindness Spirit Week: November 11th - 15th
World Kindness Day is Wednesday, November 13th. Disney Elementary is celebrating with a week-long kindness spirit week and activities! This week will serve as a reminder of the positive impact kindness can have on individuals, communities, and the world at large. We encourage our students and families to participate in Kindness week by spreading positivity, participating in acts of kindness, volunteering, or donating to others. If you need ideas, pleas reference the link below
Canned Food Drive: November 7th - November 15th!
Disney Student Council along with Fraser Public Schools is hosting our annual canned food drive to assist Fraser families during the Holiday season from Thursday, November 7th thru Friday, November 15th. Each class can earn a feather for their classroom turkey for every 10 cans collected! The class that helps the most families in our community by bringing in the greatest amount of donations will receive a pizza party! Please reference the flyer for canned food items we are collecting
Disney Recieves Fraser Education Grant
Mrs. Ciaramitaro, Disney school social worker, and Miss Fershin ,Disney's school psychologist, were awarded a grant from the Fraser Education Foundation to create a new sensory room space for students at Disney Elementary. Having a sensory space in a school environment is an evidence-based strategy that promotes a positive school culture and supports student's overall health and well-being.
Our team was awarded $1,492.67 from the FEF. This award is extra special because it was funded by the Delia Martin Gift, who was the founder of El Charro and a longtime FEF member. Her four children attended Disney Elementary. We are excited to create our new sensory room in her honor.
Thank you, Fraser Education Foundation, for awarding Disney Elementary the Delia Martin gift!
The Second Step Social & Emotional Learning Curriculum K-8
As you know, in September we kicked of the Second Step Curriculum in all K-8 classes to further strengthen our social and emotional learning. Second Step offers weekly, age-appropriate virtual lessons for students to help them with a variety of social and emotional skills. These weekly lessons build on and support all of the great work we're doing at Ike to support our students. Combined with our schoolwide restorative practices and consistent PBIS expectations, we are creating a firm Tier 1 foundation for supporting all of our students' social, emotional, and behavioral development.
This week, each grade-level will begin a new unit. Please view the grade-level home links below to learn more about what your child is learning and how to support them at home during the second unit of Second Step.

Red Flag indicates Indoor Lineup
During inclement weather, red flags will be hung near the main entry and outside the back of the building drop-off zone. These flags denote indoor line up. Our students can enter the building at 8:20 via the main entry or door #18. As a reminder, the bus loop is not a drop off zone, this area needs to stay open during arrival and dismissal times. Please either utilize the back of the building drop-off zone or park in a designated parking spot and walk your student to the main entry.
Lots and Found
Our lost & found is overflowing. Items will be outside placed the office/media center this week for students to reclaim items. Items remaining on Tuesday, November 26th will be donated to goodwill. Please encourage your child to check for missing items.
Holiday Assistance
Disney Families in Need
We want to be sure that our own families in need have access to items collected from our upcoming Canned Food Drive and Giving Tree Drive, along with other items that are often donated by community organizations.
If your family is experiencing any type of hardship this winter and could benefit from being a recipient of items collected, please complete the below form to let us know and we'll reach out to you if any items are available.
A Note of Gratitude
During the month of November, Disney teachers and students are reflecting on what we are grateful for. We would love to hear from our valued families and community about what and who you are grateful for at Disney Elementary School.
Please take a brief moment to express your gratitude to our amazing staff by completing the google form below. Your words of appreciation go a long way with our staff and make a great impact on our climate and culture. Thank you! :)
Canvas Parent Account
All Fraser classroom teachers provide instruction, resources, activities, and assessments to students utilizing the Canvas Learning Management System. As a result, students have continuous access to the course materials and information regarding their achievement.
Parents/Guardians can also have continuous access to their student’s course materials and grades in Canvas by creating a parent/observer account. In addition, parents of multiple students can easily switch between their students to view grades and assignments within the same parent account.
Parents can use Canvas to
Contact their child’s teacher
View grades, due dates, and events
See, and in many cases access, what the child is doing at school
Support an absent student
View classroom and building announcements
And more!
For the first step you will need to have two devices (tablet, laptop, computer or phone) available to be paired. One device will be used to log into your student’s canvas account. The other will be used to create your parent canvas account.
For parents/guardians of students whom are in young fives through 2nd Grade:
A QR code of your students’ username and password will have been sent home. Use your camera function to scan the QR code to access your student’s Canvas Account. If you are having issues with the QR code, contact your teacher or elementary media tech.
For parents/guardians of students whom are in 3rd-6th Grade:
To log in as your student, go to this website (preferably in Chrome, but Safari is okay):
https://www.fraser.k12.mi.us/myfps Click on the icon that says Canvas Student Login.
Your student should know their username and password. If not, contact his or her teacher or your elementary media tech.
Next Step-
To create and/or log into your Canvas Parent Account:
On a different device (tablet, laptop, computer or phone) Visit this website –
https://www.fraser.k12.mi.us/myfps
Click on the icon that says Canvas Parent Login.
Attendance Works
Attendance Matters
In Fraser - and across the state and country - the rates of student absences have increased during the last several years. Missing just two days of school a month adds up to more than 10% of the school year. Those lost learning opportunities can impact students throughout their school careers.
Some of these strategies may serve as a good reminders to help ensure strong school attendance:
Talk to your child about how going to school every day will help them do well in school and achieve their hopes and dreams.
Set goals for positive attendance (i.e. no tardies/absences this month)
Reward/acknowledge students' positive attendance habits.
Make sure students get to bed early and awake early enough to get to school on time.
Set up medical and dental appointments for weekdays after school, Early Release/Half Day afternoons, or weekends- if possible.
For children with a slight stomachache, headache or allergies, who don't have a contagious illness including Covid-19, plan to send them to school. Call a health provider for advice for children who complain regularly.
For children who cannot avoid missing school, check Canvas for learning resources. Also, be sure to call our attendance line at: 586-439-6490
