A Homecoming to Remember
What a Great Weekend
For more than a decade, KCSD has celebrated Homecoming with a parade featuring high school class representatives from each grade, the marching band, the homecoming court, and our community members! On Friday, October 4, we had an amazing turnout of families lined along the route as well as marching in our parade. Our mascots, principals, and students joined in the excitement, which culminated in a decisive 34-14 victory for our Blue Demons on the football field!
The festivities continued on Saturday evening with nearly 800 high school students gathering for the Homecoming Dance in the school gymnasium to celebrate the season and the new school year.
Enjoy this video recap of all the fun!
Supporting the Fight to Beat Cancer
Several Kennett families and staff members joined April Reynolds, Principal of MDL, for the Friends of the Helen F. Graham 5K Walk/Run to raise awareness and support for cancer patients. Together, we are stronger in the fight against cancer--because in Kennett, no one fights alone!
Active Learning and Support at KMS
Cancer Awareness
KMS 8th graders showed their support for Breast Cancer Awareness by wearing pink on Friday, October 4.
Visualizing Concepts
6th grade Social Studies teacher, Phil Faiss, took his classes outside to get some kinesthetic practice with longitude and latitude.
Living History
8th grade American History teacher Bryan Ford brought the study of the Siege of Boston to life by dressing in costume for his classes.
Bancroft Elementary Buddy Classrooms
At Bancroft Elementary, each classroom is paired with a buddy classroom, and they come together once a month for fun activities and celebrations! This pairing combines older and younger students creating valuable mentoring opportunities and fostering friendships across grade levels. Students eagerly anticipate the days they spend with their buddy classroom friends!
Hispanic Heritage Month Celebrated Across the District
New Garden Honors the Month with Color and Music
New Garden Elementary proudly celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month with a week full of activities that highlighted the rich culture and heritage of the Hispanic community. Their Spirit Week brought vibrant energy to the school with students and staff dressing up to show their enthusiasm. The hallways were beautifully decorated, reflecting the cultural diversity embraced by the school. The celebration included a special assembly featuring the talented Mariachi singer Pedro Villaseñor, whose performance was made possible through a generous grant from the Kennett Education Foundation. It was a wonderful opportunity for our students and staff to engage with and learn from this cultural celebration!

As part of the listening phase of the plan, Dr. Rizzo Saunders is facilitating focus groups with select students from all buildings between October 4 and October 30. This week she met with students from New Garden Elementary and the High School to understand how their schools are meeting their needs and identify areas for improvement.
