Message from the Principal
Hello Spartan Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers,
Usually I like to use our newsletter to celebrate great things our Spartans are doing or to inform you of important events happening at LHS. Unfortunately, I need to use this space to address some concerns I have about our parking lot at drop off and dismissal. I know that those are both very busy times but it is always important that those times remain safe for all of our staff and students to enter and exit our building. In the past month we have had 2 incidents where students were hit by vehicles. Luckily, no one was injured in either event. For that reason, please read the requests below:
The bus drop off loop is for buses ONLY. No parent dropoff or pickup EVER.
Parent drop off should be done in the loop or in the D lot closest to the football stadium. If parents proceed through the D lot counterclockwise, that could be another safe drop off location.
There should be NO parent drop off in the B lot or the C lot. Those lots are for staff and student parking only!
I know that if I had unlimited funds I would demolish and rebuild our parking lot situation. Until that day comes, I am asking for your cooperation in keeping all of our students safe. This is not something that we can accomplish without community support.
Sincerely,
Cody Japinga

October is Michigan College Month!
October is Michigan College Month! We officially kicked off the college application season for our seniors on October 7th! Throughout the month of October, many colleges are waiving application fees! In an effort to maximize consideration as well as scholarship opportunities, we are strongly encouraging all seniors who are planning to apply to college to do so by the Nov. 1st deadline. That said, deadlines can certainly vary, so be aware of deadlines for each college to which you are planning to apply.
Since October 7th, we have made daily announcements related to colleges, military etc, and trivia questions for seniors with cool prizes for those that answer correctly and quickly. In addition to above mentioned, announcements will continue to be made to remind you of college rep visits.
During the week of October 28th - 31st, Students will be putting their last minute touches on college applications in preparation for the Nov. 1 priority deadline (may not apply to your school).

Girls Swim - The girls wrapped up their last dual meet of the season with a dominant 94-19 win over Battle Creek Central. Senior Night made the event even more special as we recognized our four seniors and captains: Alyssa Osborn, Avery Russell, Kennedi Crandal, and Tiana Mishra. We also celebrated S'Maree Collins and Olivia Romero, who participated in their first diving meet. Come support us this Saturday, October 26th, at home for the All-City Meet.
Volleyball - Last Saturday the Varsity Girls took 2nd at the All City Tournament, losing to Harper Creek in the finals. Monday we took first in the Kenowa Tri! On Wednesday, we hosted a "Block Out Cancer" event to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer. All proceeds support the Battle Creek Cancer Center and the Side-Out Foundation. Thank you to all who showed their support financially and by wearing pink!
Football - Looking forward to a great game against Gull Lake tonight.
Cross Country - We had a great day at Portage for the SMAC Championship. It finally felt like fall with near-perfect racing conditions. The girls continue to show great progress as athletes and are preparing for the MHSAA Regional on Friday, 10/25.
Boys Soccer - The boys have closed their season and are getting ready for the end of season banquet.
Girls Golf - Congratulations to Amiyah Gibson as she finished the 14th at the State Golf Tournament last week. What a great accomplishment to finish 14th out of 109 entries!
Boys Tennis - Congratulations to the Boys Tennis team as they finished 12th at the State Tennis Tournament in Kalamazoo. Everyone worked hard to end the season on a high note.
After this week, all sports except Volleyball, Girls Swim and Cross Country will be done for the season.
