The Board of Education provides a "Board Meeting Summary" after each Board meeting. The summary includes a brief description of the main topics and action items. These summaries are not meant to replace minutes. The minutes for each meeting are approved and posted after the next regularly scheduled meeting. We hope these summaries provide some basic information and context around the reports, presentations and action items. Celebration

A celebration video featuring former District 41 student Ethan Cepuran who won an Olympic Bronze Medal with the US Men's Speed Skating Team was presented. Ethan attended both Benjamin Franklin and Hadley schools. The video includes an overview of his journey, celebrates his success, and even includes a message from Ethan to District 41 students. Congratulations to Ethan!

Presentations

Legal Updates from Franczek P.C. | watch

Legal Counsel representative Dana Crumley presented information about new laws related to gender identity and sexual orientation. Questions about a student's gender identity and sexual orientation are now required to be asked; however, parents do not have to answer them. The new required questions will be asked during the registration process.

Academic Update - NWEA Report & Language Programs | watch

Assistant Superintendent for Teaching, Learning and Accountability Dr. Katie McCluskey presented an academic update report featuring data related to academic achievement and growth during the pandemic. School principals were invited to comment related to the strong data presented in the academic update report. Benjamin Franklin School Principal Jeff Burke and Hadley Junior High School Principal Steve Diveley further explained the supports that have been in place and the efforts made to support students during the pandemic. Board members commented on the data and thanked the District and parents for their work and partnership during challenging times in education. Dr. Kaczkowski gave closing remarks.

Language Programs Annual Report

Director of Language Programs Dr. Theresa Ulrich presented data about Language Programs in District 41 including ACCESS test results, AAPPL scores of Foreign Language at Elementary School (FLES) Program students, and a report from a Dual Language Program parent survey.

Dr. Kaczkowski gave a brief update on the search process to hire a new Assistant Superintendent for Teaching, Learning and Accountability. Dr. McCluskey will be leaving District 41 at the end of the school year to serve as the Superintendent in Bensenville School District 2.

Technology Purchase: Student Chromebooks | watch

Director of Technology and Innovation Andrew Peterman explained the annual purchase of chromebooks for incoming 6th grade students.

Board Policy Revisions - First Reading | watch

Secretary Buttimer presented the changes to policy. She offered to answer any questions from the Board.

Student Fees for the 2022-2023 School Year | watch

Assistant Superintendent for Finance, Facilities and Operations Eric DePorter explained that this is the time of year we present the fees to the Board. There are no increases to fees this year. The proposal does include some minor decreases, but mainly fees remain unchanged.

Transportation Contract Extension | watch

Mr. DePorter shared details of a contract proposal with First Student bus company. He also presented comparison data from other school district bus contracts. The contract includes three other school districts as we are currently a part of a consortium.
