Thank you…
I’d like to say a big thank you to our School Community for your cooperation with the school closure this afternoon. The burst water pipe was a huge inconvenience to everyone in the area. The way students were picked up so promptly was greatly appreciated. Let’s hope the pipe gets fixed on time.
Have a great weekend!
John Byers

Travelling Our World with Room 7
In the mornings, Room 7 have been singing ‘Hello Around The World’ to learn different ways to say ‘Hello’ in other languages. The students have been asking to learn more about other countries… So for our ‘inquiry’ we are flying to a new country every week to learn more about it!
First we made our own passports. We had to get our passports checked and stamped to get on the plane.
Miss Roycroft gave us a ticket for our flight. We had to use our tickets to find our seats on the plane to fly to our first destination… Australia!
We had lots and lots of questions about Australia. We wanted to know all about Australia's dangerous animals, the weather, and if they had the same shops and money that New Zealand has.
We then set about investigating the answers to our questions. This involved finding books in the library about Australia, looking at websites to find information like ‘National Geographic Kids’.
We had an expert - Flynn - come in to help us answer some of our questions. He brought in his Australian coin collection to help us see the differences between Australian money and New Zealand money.
We then used all that we learned and know to complete a poster that was ‘all about Australia’. If you want to see where we have flown to this week, you will have to visit Room 7, or Room 7s blog.
Keep this date free - Matariki Lunch and open afternoon - Thursday 27th June
Come and help us celebrate Matariki the Māori New Year.
Thursday 27th June by Rooms 1-4 From 1.00pm
In Māori culture, Matariki is the name of the Pleiades star cluster and the celebration of its first rising in late June or early July. This marks the beginning of the new year in the Māori lunar calendar.
This year it falls on Friday 28th June.
Every year at Stanley Avenue School we celebrate Matariki, and like to involve our school community. Following many successful gatherings, this year we have made a change to how we celebrate Matariki at Stanley Avenue School.
On Thursday 27th June we would like to invite all whānau to join us for lunch, from 1.00pm.
We will be offering lunch to all students and their families, and then invite you to walk around our classrooms and look at student learning and displays about Matariki.
Who can come: All family members are welcome to attend, including siblings and grandparents.
Lunch will include: Chicken sliders with coleslaw, sausages, bread, pikelets, jam and cream
Water and juice will also be available
Vegetarian sausages and Gluten-Free options are available if required.
Please let Mrs Finucane know if you prefer either of these options.
Please bring: To reduce our costs and our environmental waste impact, we encourage as many families as possible to bring their own cups, plates and cutlery.
We want to thank our sponsors: Inghams, Tatua, and Duck and Cover for helping us with our lunch this year.
Ngā mihi nui-Thank you!
