November 20, 2024 - NEWSLETTER
Lighthouse families,
At this time of year when we often focus on giving thanks, I am thankful to be a part of an amazing community where facilitators have an incredible devotion to and ability to inspire and challenge students. I am thankful for the open communication and support from all of our families. I am also thankful for our students - their humor, kindness, and caring hearts.
We are in the final days of the first trimester and working to finish strong. It has been so fun seeing students make connections to thinking like a designer as they prepare for their co-created inquiry projects next trimester!
We have a speaker coming this Friday! Students will hear the story of a marketing project from the Pharmaceutical world. Product discovery begins the process, with safety, pharmacokinetics, then clinical trials. The FDA approval process leads to product approval for human use. Subsequent studies and data analysis continue to monitor the product’s safety and efficacy. The presenter will scale the presentation to all Lighthouse students and focus on what it means to be an empathetic designer.
The trimester wraps up next Tuesday. Students in grades 3-8 will receive a printed copy of the report cards in early December with academic and career and life competencies. Students are rated on the rubrics based on point in time grade with the portfolio of evidence that has been collected throughout the trimester. If students are in grades 9-12 or receiving high school credit for a course, their letter grades will be in the Campus Parent Portal for students and families to view on December 10.
Next week is a short week. There will not be a newsletter next Wednesday. There’s no school Wednesday, November 27 – Monday, December 2. School resumes after the break on Tuesday, December 3.
Have a great week and enjoy the break!

Packing Warm Clothing for Outdoor Activities
Please be sure to have your child pack warm clothing for outdoor activities. We are going to be having much cooler temperatures outside starting this week. Students may go outside for breaks, phy-ed, and dismissal time. Hats, gloves/mittens, scarves, snow pants and boots are suggested.
Notification test follow-up
We conducted our annual test of our notification system for families last Thursday evening. Did you get the message? Did you get it how you prefer? If you did not receive the message on your preferred device or if you need to update your phone number or email address, visit the Stay Connected page and click on the “update contact information and communication preferences” accordion to find directions. If you did not receive this communication on any device or have any questions, please contact communications@district16.org.
Updates from the health office
Cold weather is coming and so are the germs! We are currently seeing the following illnesses in our schools: pertussis, hand foot mouth, and influenza.
Please keep your student home when they are sick. Students who have a fever above 100, or experience vomiting or diarrhea in the previous 24 hours should stay home from school. If your child is diagnosed with an illness, please reach out to the health office.
Germs and lice are critters that we see more often during this time of year. In order to avoid germs, please wash your hands and cover your cough. To avoid lice, please periodically check your student's head and remind them to not share hats or headbands with friends. Lice become resistant to treatment if overused, so please follow directions completely when using any over-the-counter products.
Keep hands clean! Washing hands is one of the best and easiest ways to avoid getting sick.
