Birch Meadow Newsflash
November 17, 2024
Notes From Dr. Burnham
*A reminder that Picture Make Up Day Is Tomorrow!!!!!!
*Reading METCO Family Fall Event: Join Reading METCO on November 23 from 4:00pm-6:00pm for a family fall event at V! Healthy in Boston. Activities such as pumpkin and apple decorating, arts and crafts, games, food, and drinks will be provided. Click here to register for the event and check out the flyer to learn more.
*Lost and Found: Our lost and found is overflowing! Please visit the cafeteria to collect any missing belongings. Any items still here by Thanksgiving break will be donated.
*Attendance: A student is considered "Chronically Absent" when they've had 18 absences (10% of the school year). Students who have already accumulated 6+ absences for any reason at this point in the school year are 1/3 of the way to being chronically absent. We want our Birchie Bears to be here at school for their academic progress and their social emotional health. Please help us in supporting your learners by prioritizing their attendance at school.
Schedule family vacations during school vacation windows. So far this year family vacations are the leading cause of absences.
Make a consistent routine with your student every night and every morning.
Schedule appointments outside of school hours.
Familiarize yourself with the Respiratory Illness Guidelines attached below.
*On Tuesday Oct 29th we officially launched our 3rd Annual Turkey Trot which will take place the morning of Tuesday Nov 26th at the High School track! Similar to last year students will be grouped together; Kindergarten/1st, 2nd/3rd and 4th/5th and will be escorted to the track by their classroom teachers approx. five minutes before their start time (we will send these times out in the next week or so). Once attendance has been taken, our very own 4th grade parent Tanya Croteau will lead the group in a fun, energetic warm-up before the "trot" begins. At the completion of the 10-minute trot, each child will receive a medal and return to their classroom. We encourage all parents to join us cheer our friends on, they really love all the excitement of the day! Once again, this year our PE teacher Mr. McCracken has integrated age-appropriate lessons on proper running techniques into their PE curriculum. We cannot thank him enough for bringing so much excitement and support to this exciting day! Because this will take place during the school day, all students will be participating; students can choose to run, walk, dance, or do their very own version of a "turkey trot". As of today, we have approx. 1/3 of students registered. If you have not already registered your child, please do so as soon as possible. As a reminder this is a fundraiser and is our biggest PTO fundraiser of the year! Currently we are at approx. $7K of our $25K goal but we know that with your support we can get those Field Day T Shirts! Please see attached on how to register your student. Feel free to reach out to our Turkey Trot Coordinators Amanda Haley- AmandaLynn.Haley@gmail.com or Timna Serino-Timna10@gmail.com for any questions or concerns!

There is local entertainment throughout both days including live performances by school choruses, bands and local groups. Food trucks will be outside selling items at the event.
