Things to Know:
ANNUAL YEARLY FORMS
Each year we ask parents and caregivers to complete the Annual Yearly Forms via PowerSchool. These forms provide updated contact information to the school as well as important medical information. These forms are required before any student is able to attend field trips. With a few trips coming up soon, please be sure that all of this information is completed. The front office sends a PowerSchool Annual Yearly Forms reminder email each school day. We are have a 92% completion rate. Please help us get to 100%.
FALL WEATHER IS HERE:
Just a reminder that we go outside everyday. Please send your students with the appropriate clothing so that they can play outside safely. Temperatures can vary dramatically form morning to afternoon, we always recommend dressing in layers. It is good to have choices throughout the day. *Please label coats, hats and mittens so they can be returned if left behind.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR MORNING DROP-OFF FUN!
Our wonderful parent community makes our morning drop-off line possible, and we need your help! In October, we're looking for 4th-grade parents to assist students as they exit their cars and head to their classrooms. The fun starts at 8:05 AM, so we ask volunteers to arrive between 8:00-8:20 AM. Sign up here to be part of the morning greeting crew!
SPIRIT DAY PARADE: OCTOBER 31 AT 2:10 pm
We are excited to continue the tradition of a Spirit Day Parade on Thursday, October 31, at 2:10 p.m. This is an optional event; students can opt out of the parade or participate in it without a costume. Both are past practices at Ben Hem.
If your student will participate in the parade, there are specific guidelines we ask everyone to follow. Common sense and good judgment are essential guides to ensure a safe and positive experience for all our students. Please make sure your costumes meet the following guidelines. If you have any questions, please contact me. Let’s figure out answers to questions before our parade.
Guidelines for a fun and inclusive Spirit Day Parade:
Think about the safety of yourself and others during and after school. This includes emotional safety and respect for other students. Students are not permitted to wear costumes that poke fun at another person or group. If you worry that your costume may be offensive, it probably is and may not be worn.
Costumes may not compromise the health or safety of anyone
Costumes may not present any reference to drugs or alcohol and may not include toys or replica weapons. Please leave props at home.
Costumes may not display inappropriate language, or pictures or hold/imply connotation or double meaning
Costumes may not incorporate methods of transportation such as rollerblades, wagons, or skateboards (safety).
Costumes may not depict any inappropriate character designed to cause discomfort for member(s) of the school community (think age-appropriate characters - not characters from R-rated movies, etc)
Students who wear masks or headgear that covers their faces during the parade must be able to move safely and confidently with the mask on.
If you have questions about a costume, contact me. I have the final say about the appropriateness and safety of any costume at Ben Hem. I am happy to answer specific questions and want to do this before October 31.
