Resident Assistant Weekly
Volume 1 Issue 1
Welcome!
As you may have gathered from the email you received last week, we are staying busy in the Campus Life Office. We will be sending you this weekly newsletter to keep you informed and to help prepare you for Fall Training! Please be sure check your email often and to read these newsletters thoroughly! Throughout this newsletter you will find links to online resources. These resources can assist with door decorations, bulletin board ideas, and may even connect you to RA's across the country!
Action Required!
It has been brought to our attention that many of you may have responsibilities outside of serving as a Resident Assistant. If you think you might have a conflict with training please email Eleanor, efkahn@knox.edu with the details as soon as you can.
What can you do now?
Make Door Decs!
Door Decs will help build community by uniting your residents and making them feel welcome! Hold off on adding names as residents may move around between now and September.
Create a theme for your area!
A good theme can carry you through a term or even the whole year!
Brainstorm!
Start think of ways to make your community feel like home. How will use the blank walls?
Summer Communication
Communicating with your residents over the summer is one of the things that makes Knox a special place! We want to give a special shout out to Shasta for being the first RA to email her residents! WAY TO GO SHASTA! If you have not reached out or forgot let your supervisor know that you did, this is your friendly reminder to do so ASAP!
Some of you received a list of changes to your original roster. We understand that this can be confusing, but want you to know that room assignments will continue to change throughout the summer. Try not to worry and feel free to reach out to your supervisor or to Koreen if you have questions about your residents.
Fall Training: What to Expect
Training will begin on the afternoon of August 30th and will continue until classes begin on September 10th. Days will be long, fun, and full of important information! We will begin each day at 9:00am and continue until 5:00pm or later for most of the week. We will always take time to eat lunch and dinner, as we know that no one likes a hangry RA. As our training schedule becomes more solidified we will be sure to share more with you! We are especially excited about this year's theme, "Leading from the Inside Out!"
