February Week 2
Principal's Corner
Greetings Trailblazers!
Each year in Virginia we celebrate Kindness Week during the second week in February. The purpose of Kindness Week is to recognize that simple day-to-day acts of kindness enable our schools, communities, and state to be a kinder, safer, healthier and more inclusive place to live, work, learn and play. We are excited to kick off Virginia Kindness Week at Discovery on Monday with two exciting events under the theme of “Kindness is Cool”!
Schoolwide Kindness Week Event #2: Self-Paced Kindness Challenge Grid
Each student will receive a blank “Kindness is Cool” kindness challenge grid from their classroom teacher on Monday, 2/11. Participation is voluntary; however, all students who submit a completed challenge grid by the end of the day on Friday, 2/16, will receive a small incentive. Our school social worker and counselors will also randomly select one winner per grade level from the submitted challenge grids. Winners will be announced on the news show Wed, 2/21 and will earn a popsicle party for their entire class (with parent permission so be on the lookout for a permission slip request from your classroom teacher). The “Kindness is Cool” Popsicle Parties will be held Thursday, 2/29 during lunch & will be facilitated by our school social worker and counselors. But most importantly, we hope your student joins us in our fun events and helps to make Discovery an even kinder, safer, healthier, and more inclusive place to be!
Don’t forget to continuously check Discovery’s Assessment Calendar where you can find information about all testing for all grades, including test windows, score reports, and general information about each test.
We hope you have a wonderful week of giving and receiving kindness!
Warmly,
Debbie Ragan
Your Assistant Principal

The Food committee: This group will help organize the food and drink items needed for the day of the event.
The Volunteer Committee is for parents who want to help with different jobs, such as making phone calls, handing out flyers, and coordinating different tasks. This group will help organize the volunteers who are going to help the day of the event.
