IDR Bookmarks
Bookmarks are perfect for scaffolding students’ knowledge and practice of a reading strategy that you have taught. I like to give these out right after I have taught a reading strategy to a small group or after an individual reading conference. These bookmarks are great reminders to students about which strategy they should be focusing on during IDR. At the bottom of each bookmark are 4 different “Touch Points” that you can sign when you check in with that student about that strategy. One of the best features of bookmarks is their portability: they can go home with your students and be used whenever they are independently reading outside of your classroom.
I am creating these bookmarks to go along with the strategies in “The Reading Strategies Book” by Jennifer Serravallo. If you would like any bookmarks pictured above, please send me an email listing which one and how many you need. I can also create new ones for you as well. 😊
I am happy to model an IDR conference and how to introduce a bookmark to a student. Just send me an email with a day and time.
- Diana Wagner
I wanted to share an example of a great learning target and clear success criteria. The teacher had the students read the learning target chorally and defined key terms, like paragraph.
When I was observing this lesson, the students looked back on the success criteria to ensure that they were meeting the target.
Goal Setting
Speaking of goals, a reminder that all goals for PGO, Comprehensive and Focused evaluations are due on 10/31.
Panorama
The Panorama’s social-emotional well-being survey window for students (grades 3-12) is Oct. 3-27. A staff survey will be administered later this school year. Students in grades 3-12 will receive survey questions that cover (the same topic and questions as last year) several topics that align with the state social-emotional learning standards for students as well as cultural awareness, relationships and safety. The survey will be administered to students in the fall and again in the spring. Families will be surveyed later this spring. Staff responses will be anonymous, but student information is identifiable so that teachers and school leaders can access student information through an interactive dashboard to help support student needs by classroom or at an individual level.
Welcome Aboard
My name is Michelle, and I am very excited to be a part of the Cheetah Family! I grew up attending Elementary, Middle, and High school within the Mukilteo School District and I feel so blessed to work for the district that saw me grow throughout my childhood years. I was born in Mexico City, Mexico and was brought to the United States when I was 1 year old. I was raised in Everett, WA most of my life but moved to Yakima, WA in 2009 graduating from Eisenhower High in 2011. I moved back to Everett shortly after, because I really missed my family, the rain, and our beautiful evergreen trees. Before coming to MSD, I was a Public Benefit Specialist for the Department of Social and Health Services where I enjoyed my time helping the community and connecting them with resources during a time of need. Now, I am very happy to have the opportunity to continue my career within the Mukilteo School District, as I finish up an assignment with Human Resources. During my personal time, outside of work, I enjoy being around my family, cooking new recipes, home décor and traveling. My best family vacation so far, was during our visit to Paris, France.
A fun fact about me: My mom is 1 out of 10 siblings which makes me 1 out of 63 cousins! My most memorable event would have to be jumping out of a plane for my birthday this year! It was surprisingly a lot of fun!
I am looking forward to meeting everyone at Challenger and starting my new role as the Office Assistant II. I will be your go-to for attendance and other office related tasks 😊
