Administrative Assertions
At ÉCCHS, students are encouraged to become involved in clubs, programs, athletics, and student-led activities. We offer a wide variety of fine arts programs, leadership groups, and teams for all students to explore their interests. Beyond the classroom learning environment, these types of connections foster social connections and positive experiences. Thanks to our students and staff for a strong start-up!
Congratulations to Parker Prusko on competing at Golf Provincials! Best wishes to our volleyball teams and cross-country runners on seasons of fun competition and skill development. We are grateful for our many volunteer coaches for their countless hours of working with our athletes. Thank you to our Student Council for organizing the back-to-school BBQ and thank you to the Media class for live-streaming morning announcements and other events.
Once again, student assessments will be reported digitally on PowerSchool in real-time so physical report cards will not be distributed. Parents can access their child’s academic progress through the PowerSchool parent portal and the phone application. We encourage parents to contact their child’s teachers if they have questions about their child’s learning. We welcome parents to attend our school council meeting on October 11 at 7:00 p.m. in the Learning Commons. Also, Parent-Teacher Conferences are just around the corner. More information around these conferences will be shared via School Messenger in the upcoming weeks about how to sign up for a conference time.
As we move into October, we hope that you have the opportunity to give thanks for the positives in our lives.
Thanks to students, families, and staff for working together to support students in their learning.

Lockdown Drill
Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),
Battle River School Division emphasizes safe and caring schools. Part of providing a safe learning environment is helping students and staff be prepared for an emergency. Our school holds six fire drills each year and we will also be holding two lockdown drills – one in October and another in the spring.
A lockdown is when all the students and staff are tucked into their classrooms (or another safe, lockable area of the school) to avoid an intruder inside the building. This is not a situation we expect our schools to encounter but, just like a fire drill, practicing will help us all be better prepared if such an incident does occur. When we hold our lockdown drill, discussions will also take place with students in a calm, sensitive, age-appropriate way, so as not to generate anxiety or fear. If you’d like to give your children additional reassurance that they are safe at school and drills are what we do so we are prepared ‘just in case’, we would welcome your support. During a lockdown drill, the outside doors of the school will also be locked. If you should arrive at the school during the brief time our drill is taking place (either this month or in the spring) you will see a sign letting you know why you can’t get in. It is possible we will have police officers present for the drill, as well as representatives of the school division. Their role is to help us evaluate our preparedness and suggest any changes we might make in future drills.
Thank you for your cooperation. If you have any concerns or questions, please contact me at (780) 672-4416 Extension #: 6708.
Sincerely,
Chad Kendall
Assistant Principal

- The first fundraisers of the school year were launched last week. Panago Pizza coupons and Superstore/Save-on/Co-op gift cards are now available, with order forms posted in the Google Classroom for your child's Music class, and hardcopies in the Music Room. Due Oct 17. Remember: All your fundraising profits count toward your child's Music class fees for the year (see Music Handbook for details).
- The Senior Band will participate in the Legion's Remembrance Day ceremony once again, on Saturday morning, November 11. We had a significant number of the Seniors participating last year, and we'd like to see that happen once again this year. Consider adapting any travel plans for the long weekend/November break so that your Grade 10-12 Band students can join us for this important event.
- Links have been posted in the Google Classrooms so that families can order their child's uniform shirt and tie(s). Due to rising costs, we encourage parents to use the links provided. If your child needs to update their uniform for this year, please place your order(s) as soon as possible as students without the proper uniform are not allowed to perform.

Our football team is off to a great start. Not only have they started the season 2-0, but they have shut out their opponents in both games. They beat Peace River 17-0 at home and then travelled down south to beat Coaldale 25-0. Playoffs will start in late October for our team.
Golf
We sent 7 golfers to zones at the Alberta Springs course down by Red Deer on September 18th, it was a cold, windy day. Parker Prusko had a great round, shooting a 75, earning a berth into the Provincial Championships in Llyodminster Sept 25 and 26.

Volleyball
September is a busy month for volleyball, ÉCCHS has 7 teams competing. Our 2 grade 9 girls teams and 1 boys, junior volleyball and senior volleyball teams have all had their first regular season games and each team has competed in at least 1 tournament. Some of the September highlights include: our grade 9 boys winning their home tournament while the girls were runners up as well as our junior girls finishing second at their own home tournament. October is just as busy with volleyball. Along with multiple tournaments for each team our grade 9’s will be playing in the Divisional tournament sometime during the last week of October.
