Introducing our NEW Green Meadows School Theme
Be the One: Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean.
Our theme for the 2024-2025 school year is "Be The One". Our goal this year is to make sure all members of the Green Meadows School community feel included and connected. Our focus on inclusivity is aligned with our school goals and the district's Equity Improvement Plan. We are encouraging students to "Be the one" to include others and make them feel a sense of belonging. For example, students could "Be the one" to invite a new student to play at recess or "Be the one" to notice when a classmate is feeling down and needs a friend. As a school community, we will continue to discuss ways we can encourage all members of our community to "Be the one" (to make others feel included and connected). Please share your ideas here. We will also be connecting this theme to our Green Meadows school rules and recognizing students with our new Green Meadows Grams when we see students "Being the one".
Please help us GROW our new school theme!

What is Second Step?
Our Second Step lessons have begun!! Grades 1-5 have begun Unit 1 - Growth Mindset & Goal Setting. Letters will be sent home at the start of each 5-week Second Step Unit to keep parents involved in knowing the skills their children are learning, as well as how they can reinforce that learning at home.
Here are some ways you can encourage a Growth Mindset with your child at home!
Second Step digital program is flexible, web-based, and uses up-to-date research to help teachers engage children with age-appropriate, culturally relevant social-emotional learning content.
Second Step Elementary Digital Program Overview
Bullying: In addition to the Second Step main units, Grades 1-5 will also be completing an additional unit specifically focusing on Bully Prevention. This will take place after Unit 1, beginning later in October (which is also Bullying Prevention month!)
While our Kindergarten students will also be utilizing the Second Step program, they first complete the 5-week We Thinkers! Curriculum. The aim of the We Thinkers! (Volume 1) series is to help young verbal learners develop the skills they need to be flexible social thinkers and social problem solvers.
Through the experiences of four characters in the storybooks and the accompanying curriculum units, children learn about the social mind and social expectations. They also learn about their own thinking (and that of others) to help them make better decisions when in the midst of social play and interaction.
