The Eagle Report

Eagle Report, January 8 -12, 2024
I hope you had a restful and rejuvenating break, filled with joy and memorable moments. As we embark on 2024, I am thrilled to welcome back our students to continue their journey of growth and achievement!
With the new calendar year, let's embrace the opportunity to focus on our Eagles' goals and aspirations. Whether it's academic excellence or personal development, our students will reach new heights this year. As Dr. Martin Luther King taught, "Intelligence plus character-that is the true goal of education".
Powell is a vibrant community where every member plays a crucial role. Each student, each family member, and each staff member contributes to our unique culture that helps every Eagle thrive. Together, we create an environment that cultivates a love for learning and plants the seeds for an incredible future.
Thank you for staying informed and supporting your child's success at school!
Soaring Together,
Mrs. Fieri, Principal

IReady Assessment #2 Results
Results are in for the second diagnostic test in reading and math on the IReady! If you have a child in grades 1-8, you can view your child's growth and performance level. Here's how:
1. Navigate to lbschools.net
2. From the Main Menu, click on Students then Student Portal
3. Log in to your student’s i-Ready Dashboard using their district portal credentials, and then click on the i-Ready icon
4. Click on the For Families dropdown and select the For Families report.
5. Enter the LBUSD Report Code: TCKP54
The grade level with the HIGHEST GROWTH from September to June will win an In-N-Out Lunch! The third and final diagnostic assessment will be given the first week in June.
Regular attendance is essential for success in school. If your child is going to be absent or if you need to report an absence, please send a note to school or call our attendance clerk at 310-631-8794. Parents only have one week to clear any unverified absences, after a week has passed the attendance code must be "unexcused" even if the student was sick.
When you send in an absence note, please write down the first and last name of the student, grade level, and the dates the student was out. This will help our Attendance Clerk get the attendance coded correctly and prevent truancies or unverified absences.
Traffic Around School
Drop off and pick up times can be challenging in our parking lots and designated zones. Here is how you can make a positive difference:
We need to respect our school parking lot procedures:
- Pull all the way forward when using the Valet Drop Off zones
- Use the Valet Zone and NOT the parking lot area when dropping off students
- Do NOT double park
- Do NOT block or park behind cars that are in parking spot
- Watch for students when you are driving near the school and SLOW DOWN
Ideas to help with pick up:
- Inform the teacher by sending a note if your child has permission to walk home without a parent
- Let your child know who is picking up them up and where to meet them
- Plan to pick up your child at the gate designated for the grade level. Older children will be directed to meet younger siblings at the youngest child's gate.
- TK and K families will continue to be required to sign-out your child from the classroom

Learning About Eagles
An Eagle Lesson
Because an eagle’s stomach is small, they have a storage area in the esophagus called the crop. They can store up to two pounds of food in their crop (it looks like Jackie's crop was near maximum capacity this week). Throughout the day they will do “crop drops”, usually putting their head back and making odd movements with their neck. This allows food to drop down into the digestive system, giving the eagles enough energy to do the things eagles do.
Wishing all of our Eagle Families capacity crops for all you will do in 2024!
