Weekly Devotion
“Dear children, let us not love with words or speech, but with actions and in truth.” 1 John 3:18
Imagine that your best friend is in trouble. You could tell them, “I’m here for you,” but what if you also did something to help them? Maybe you shared your lunch when they forgot theirs, or you helped them pick up their groceries off the ground after the bag busted. Perhaps you risked your own life to rescue a friend out of a perilous situation. That’s what love looks like when it’s in action, not just words!
Now, think about Jesus. He didn’t just say He loves us; He showed it in the biggest way possible. Jesus knew that we all make mistakes and do things that keep us away from God. Instead of just saying, “I love you,” Jesus did something incredible. He decided to leave heaven above and come down to earth as a man, to live among us, teach us, and then, even though He is perfect, He chose to die and the cross for us.
Why did He do that? Because His love is so big, it couldn’t just be spoken; it had to be shown. By dying on the cross, Jesus took away our sins so we could be close to God forever. That’s love in action!
How can you show love to your friends or family without just saying it? Can you think of a time when someone showed you love by doing something for you? Remember, God’s love for you isn’t just a story to tell; it’s a love to live out every day through our actions, showing love through what we do!
