BAGEL DAYS ARE BACK! October 22nd is our first one!
Lost & Found will be Donated Wednesday October 23rd
Can I bring in birthday treats for my child’s birthday?
We celebrate birthdays at Monteith by giving each student a birthday book and bookmark during their birthday month.
Due to the large number of student allergies, we no longer can allow any type of birthday cakes, cupcakes or cookies in the elementary schools (except for teacher scheduled celebrations) . Please save the present celebrations for home parties. If students want to bring in a small goodie bag of non-edible items ( Ex: pop-its, pencils, etc.) that is allowed but not necessary. If you do send in something with your child it needs to be for the whole class not just a couple students.
Kindness matters at Monteith and Always!
2nd grade had a wonderful Field Trip to see Wild Robot

Library News
Creeping into the Halloween season with several collaborative projects. 3rd and 4th graders started working in groups to rehearse their reader’s theatre projects. They will be creating a title page graphic and recording their plays for the school to listen to on Halloween. 2nd graders read Creepy Crayon after learning about the author Aaron Reynolds and illustrator Peter Brown. They then did an activity online where they created a new creepy character from one of the creepy books (carrots, underwear or crayon). Finally, young fives, kindergarten, and first grade listened to Creepy Carrots after learning about the same author and illustrator. The first graders did an activity about cause-and-effect related to the story, and the others worked collaboratively with Keva Planks to re-create the fence around Crakemhopper field to keep the creepy carrots locked up just like Jasper did in the story. we started working on some Halloween sign language as well. We are definitely taking advantage of this spooky season!
Music News
4th graders are anxiously awaiting the arrival of their recorders! We are practicing reading and writing the lines and spaces of the treble clef so we are ready to play in November.
Art News
How big is your hand? In this lesson, students learn about the human body and proportions by creating an x-ray drawing of their hand. First, students trace their hand, then learn how to add bones inside their hand just like you would see in an x-ray. Students color the skin in black and the bones in white to create contrast. As an added bonus, students worked on an additional bat wing.

Source a super book store in the Cass Corridor that has been there forever, run by a mother/daughter team. They specialize in non-fiction, but have a beautifully curated section of YA and children's books and sponsor cool readings and events. (They are also happy to order books instead of online sites and they have audiobooks via libro.fm)
Senate Theater

One of the old movie houses of Detroit. They still show old movies and each one comes with an Old Timey concert before the movie and during intermission; they have the original pipe organ from the Fisher Theater. They also have great snacks and memorabilia.
