OLIS News & Continuing Education
Week of September 2, 2019
The RI Office of Library & Information Services (OLIS) joined the RI Center for the Book to represent Rhode Island in the Parade of States at the 19th Annual National Book Festival on August 31 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington D.C. The festival drew over 10,000 people to celebrate reading and meet their favorite authors.
The RI Office of Library & Information Services, along with the RI Library Association, Cornucopia of RI, and the URI Graduate School of Library & Information Services, held a day long Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Summit on August 7 at the University of Rhode Island's Carothers Library. The purpose of the day was for library staff to come together for a statewide conversation about how to embed equity, diversity & inclusion practices into library services, programs, collections, and work culture.
The Fall 2019 Continuing Education session is open for registrations. Explore roundtable meetings and programs on topics including marketing, community needs assessment, copyright, and equity, diversity and inclusion. Save the date for December 11, when Ryan Dowd will present a full day Librarian's Guide to Homelessness Training at the Cranston Public Library.
