Dolphin Digest for Parents
Vol. 32: April 21 - April 25, 2025
Friday, April 25, 2025 is a DJUSD school holiday!
Dear NDE Families,
This week, we celebrate Volunteer Appreciation Week—and we want to say a heartfelt thank you to each and every one of you. The incredible support you provide helps make NDE the special place it is. Whether you’ve served on the various school committees, helped in classrooms,
on field trips, at events, or behind the scenes, please know how much we appreciate you.
We invite all our volunteers to join us for a Volunteer Breakfast hosted by our staff on Monday at 7:45 AM in the MPR. We’d love the chance to say thank you in person!
It saddens me to share that we had three bike thefts from our bike rack area this week. I am working closely with the Davis Police Department and our district office to explore deterrence options and increase security. At our last site council meeting, we increased the hours of our campus safety supervisor. Clearly, that has not been sufficient. I will share more information as soon as I have an update. I understand how upsetting this can be, especially for our students. If your child needs support processing this event, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our counseling team or to me directly.
At NDE, safety, wellness, and belonging are priorities for all our students. These recent events only strengthen our commitment to fostering a safe and inclusive environment for every child. Last week, Ms. Perry and I visited our 6th grade classrooms to talk about diversity, belonging, and being mindful of the language we use—specifically around dehumanizing language. Ms. Valdepena and I also held similar conversations with our 5th grade students. These are important conversations, and we’ll continue this work with our dolphins.
DJUSD Board Trustee Darrah will be visiting our campus this Thursday. She will be speaking with a small group of students. If you prefer that your child not participate, please email me directly at rpinto@djusd.net by Wednesday.
As we approach end-of-year testing, students and staff are working hard to prepare. Your support at home is invaluable—ensuring students have dedicated homework time, a good night’s sleep, and some downtime after school goes a long way in helping them feel balanced and ready.
A quick reminder: there is no school supervision at the public library after school. Please make arrangements as needed to ensure your student’s safety.
Our PTA event, Dolphin Disco is fast approaching...get your tickets!
We are all looking forward to our school musical, Press Start, happening this week! There will be two school-day performances on Wednesday, and a special evening performance at 6:30 PM on Thursday, April 24. We hope to see you there!
With gratitude,
Principal Pinto

Resources
We are a PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) school!
What is PBIS?
A framework in which we develop systems to support students with behavior.
We do this by:
- Having consistent, school-wide expectations
- Explicitly teaching and re-teaching the expectations - shared responsibility
- Acknowledging the positive behavior
- Responding to problem behavior - it’s complicated!
- Using data to make decisions, make changes, and adjust systems
