School to Home Wellness Newsletter
The purpose of this newsletter is to share strategies we use at school to address behavior concerns, which can also be helpful at home. By working together, we can reinforce behavior expectations and support our students' success both at school and at home. This first newsletter also introduces our Mental Health Team. Novel Book Buffet Night
Jack Sparrow visited Dillingham in November to encourage students to read. Jack spent the day in the elementary with students before making an appearance at the Novel Book Buffet. A special thanks to Dillingham Arts Council for sponsoring Jack Sparrow and Life Line Inc for donating the dinner.
Raising Readers: What Parents Can Do
1. Read Together Every Day - try reading as a daily bedtime routine.
2. Model Reading - make sure your kids watch you read
3. Visit the Library - Dillingham Public Library is a fantastic community library!
4. Talk and Build Vocabulary - expose your child to new words through daily conversations
5. Point out words - cereal boxes, instruction manuals, signs, flyers in the mail ... all great sources for pointing out words to young readers.

Community Opioid Prevention
Quyana to all our community partners who are working with DCSD to raise awareness on the dangers of drugs and vaping. On December 17th the Strengthening Our Community event brought community members together to better understand the dangers of Fentanyl and share personal stories that have impacted our community. On December 18th Vaping Prevention assembly was held at the Elementary and the Fentanyl Education and Personal Stories assembly was held at the Middle High School. More events will be planned for next semester.
If you would like more information on talking to your children about vaping and drugs, please reach out to Tish Olson - tolson@dlgsd.org
