VPHS Remembers 9/11
Written by: Alexander Tran
In honor of those who passed away on September 11th, 2001 Villa Park High School’s ASB and National Honors Society hosted a letter drive for our active duty soldiers. In the amphitheater, an American flag poster was also put up.
Commemorating Patriot Day, the theme of Friday’s football game was USA.
VPHS Promotes E-Bike Safety
On September 11th, VPHS held an E-Bike Safety & Laws presentation in conjunction with OC Sheriffs, the City of Villa Park, and Villa Park Rotary. Members of our community, city officials, and students came to hear Deputy McDermott present on e-bike laws and safety.
By attending this presentation, student e-bike riders will complete their safety requirement to have an E-Bike Permit. The E-Bike permit program at VPHS will roll out in November 2024.

For the 2025 AP exams, students at Villa Park High School will be registering online. Online Exam registration will begin on Tue, Sep 10, 2024 at 8:00 AM and end on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at 11:59 PM. The AP exam registration process is two steps, but both can be completed in one sitting when the student and parent/guardian do this together. Even if you do not plan to take the AP exam, you need to complete both steps to access the
College Board’s AP resources. Both steps must be completed in order to have AP exams ordered:
- Step 1: Begin the process by registering at www.TotalRegistration.net/AP/052279. Here you will indicate both the AP courses you are taking this year and the exams you wish to take. You will receive your join codes and directions to complete the second required step. Any exam fees will be paid online so be sure to have a debit card or credit card available before beginning registration. Paying online is a great way to make sure that payment has been made while avoiding mailing payment.
- Step 2: Use the join codes provided at the completion of step one to enroll the student's AP courses and exams in the College Board's system.

Spartan Activities
Spartan's Got Talent-Fall Sports Assembly
Celebrating our Fall season sports, VPHS held a seasonal Sports Assembly at the amphitheater on Friday. In cooperation with ASB’s Entertainment Liaisons, fall sports teams worked diligently to choreograph and practice their dances. From Girl’s Flag Football to Boy’s Water Polo, each team had a unique dance of their own, fit with costumes that’d make a proper performance for the student–parent audience. Like previous years, the dance had a team of teachers who judged the performance of the respective teams. This time, Assistant Principal, Mr. Simons, counselor, Ms. Bartelli, social science teacher, Mrs. Rodriguez, and film teacher, Mr. Hartong had the opportunity to serve as judges in an America's Got Talent theme. Out of the two Assemblies that were held during the second period, two fall sports teams were selected as the winners: Boys Water Polo and Girl’s Football.
The Student Voter Registration was created to ensure every school in California provides eligible students with a meaningful opportunity to register, or pre-register, to vote. The Secretary of State's office contacts schools annually to gather contact information as required by Elections Code and to provide voter registration cards, when requested.
Pre-Registration is available to CA students ages 16-17 who want to be future voters.
Meet Our Spartan Staff
Jennifer Durasivic-English Teacher
Written by: Alexander Tran
Born and raised in Michigan, Mrs. Durasevic was first inspired to be an educator through her frequent athleticism. Graduating from Trenton High School in 1999, she was an active student-athlete who played both tennis and volleyball. Mrs. Durasevic would eventually go on to play the latter at the University of Michigan, Dearborn for two years. It was here that Mrs. Durasevic was first inspired to pursue education. After two years of matriculation, she would later transfer to Michigan State University where she majored in English and minored in psychology. Mrs. Durasevic would later move to California, and worked as an English teacher at Perris High School for almost two decades. As of this week, Mrs. Durasevic has recently joined our Spartan family as a sophomore English honors teacher. Throughout her career as an educator, Mrs. Durasevic has had a keen interest in her student’s academic and professional life. This passion is exuded in her participation in Perris High School’s AVID program. Outside the classroom, Mrs. Durasevic enjoys pilates, the comfort of her two children who attend OUSD schools, and her favorite book: The Awakening by Kate Chopin.
Lauren Bartelli-Counselor
Written By: Alexander Tran
Graduating from Esperanza High School in 2010, Mrs. Bartelli’s newfound passion to become a high school counselor became clear. While attending Esperanza High School, Mrs. Bartelli was especially active on campus, serving on her school’s Associated Student Body, song team, and also as a counseling office assistant. Following graduation, Mrs. Bartelli attended the University of Mississippi, where she majored in Business Marketing and minored in Public Relations. At “Ole Miss”, Mrs. Bartelli was active within the Phi Mu sorority, serving as the Director of Harm and Risk Prevention and Chair of the Social Committee. Joining the Spartan family in 2021, Mrs. Bartelli’s official title at Villa Park High School is “counselor for last names A-DE”. Prior to her tenure here, Mrs. Bartelli previously worked at Learn 4 Life charter school and sales at Staples corporate office. Mrs. Bartelli’s favorite aspects of working at Villa Park High School is helping students succeed, and giving them insight as to how to achieve it.
